Basic intro content w. map; needs full writeup and separate language article. Skookum1 - 10 May 06
This sentence is correct in the sense that we had a well defined territory and semipermanent dwellings (Long Houses) in which we lived; but the implication that we did not travel is wrong. We traveled up and down the coast by canoe and also on foot. We routinely went down to what is now called California and perhaps as far south as Mexico. We also went north to Canada. We also went a long way to the East. Our tribe is well known for our trading journeys. And our language became the basis of a "lingua Franca" of the West Coast which all the tribes used to communicate with each other. This article is a reasonable "start" but it has several inaccuracies. 75.165.46.89 14:55, 28 August 2007 (UTC) |
