Career Highlights and Awards

John McLeod "Chip" Lohmiller (born July 10, 1966 in Woodbury, Minnesota) is a former professional American football placekicker for the Washington Redskins (1988-1994), the New Orleans Saints (1995), and the St. Louis Rams (1996) of the National Football League. On Sept. 9, 1991 in a Monday night game against Dallas, he became the first player to kick 4 field goals of 45 yards or longer in a single game. The Redskins won that game 33-31. That same season, he also kicked a field goal in a 16-13 overtime win against the Houston Oilers and 2 fourth quarter field goals against the Cardinals which gave the Redskins a 20-14 win. Another game decided by Lohmiller's foot was against the N.Y. Giants in which he provided the final four points(1 PAT. 1 FG), after the game was tied at 13-13. In the Super Bowl that year against Buffalo, he kicked 2 field goals late in the game that put the game out of reach for the Bills in a 37-24 victory. 1991 was clearly the highlight of his career. He led the league in scoring with 149 points(more than the entire Indianapolis Colts who had 143) and earned a Super Bowl ring. Lohmiller is the only player to kick 5 field goals in a game in three consecutive seasons; 1990-1992.

In 1990, he kicked a game tying PAT in the final seconds and an overtime field goal against the Lions in which the Redskins trailed by 21 points in the 3rd quarter giving them a 41-38 win. He also provided the game winning field goal against the Bears with under four minutes left in the game, giving the Redskins a 10-9 victory.

Another memorable season for Lohmiller was in 1989 in which four of the games the Redskins won, they scored fewer touchdowns than their opponents, but got help through their place kicker.

In 1988, he kicked two game winning field goals against the Steelers(30-29), and the Eagles(20-19), both coming in the final seconds. He also had two field goals in the final minutes against the Saints(27-24) and Packers(20-17), which were the final points in those two games as well.

He played college football at the University of Minnesota.[1] He is currently the head coach for the Pequot Lakes High School football team in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota[2].
