[edit] Salish Sea is bunk

I don't care about symbolic feel-goodie name-changes, the problem is that this name has been proposed without considering that its American inventors didn't mean the Georgia Strait, they meant ALL the waters between Ucluelet-Olympia-Campbell River. What galls me, though, is that the Chemainus First Nation is not located on the Strait of Georgia, but on Stuart Channel; the Penelakuts are on the Strait of Georgia, and the Shishalh and Tsawwassen....but not the Chemainus. Did the Chemainus First Nation think to ask the Penelakuts or the Skwxwu7mesh or others if they wanted the name changed, or if they had any other (better) ideas. And everbody knows this is "the Saltchuck", a name that's used on either side of the red/white divide....."Salish Sea" sounds sucky, and "Salish" properly means the Flathead people in Montana anyway; I suppose Flathead Lake could more properly be the target ofr a renaming; it's a mini-sea, landlocked and freshwater,but much more legitimately the bearer of "Salish Sea" as a name. But hey, go ahead, be toadies of the "make BC look good for the Olympics" campaign all you want; just don't exp;ect other people to support you for it....Skookum1 (talk) 20:46, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
