Cherat is a town in Peshawar District in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. Cherat fort is used by elite Special Services Group of Pakistan Army.

The main villages in Cherat are Saleh Khana, Chapri Kotli Kalan, Kotli Khord, Bakhtai, Shah Kot, Jalozai, Spin Khak and Dag Ismail Khel.these are the main tribes and there are mountains as the shungrei mountains and a place called barn.the main big moountain region is sulemani sar which are co mountain of kohe sulemanee mountain range. People of these villages are living example of unity, who share and follow generations old culture. Late Miyan Nawab Haji, f/o Mir Ajab Khattak and Sajad hameed would alway be remembered for his contributions.

There are many great people in cherat valley.
but one name can never be ignored,owner of a historical personality SHAHEED MIAN LUTF-UR-EHMAN KHATTAK.
He is the real hero of cherat.He scrificed his life in development of Nation.

The main clans in Saleh Khana are Gunrh Khell, Meis Khel, Qurban khel, Duraan Khel, and Moondh Khel. The main clans in adjoining Shangre are Amir Jan Khel, pronounced as Manja khel. Tatar Khel , Tarqan Khel , shatar Khel,and Namawar Khel pronounced Lamawar khel.
the main tribes of dag ismail khel are ; 1.Miangan 2.khattak.

Cherat is located 34 miles south east from the city of Peshawar at an elevation of 4500ft on the west of the Khattak range, which divides the Peshawar from the Kohat district.it has tribes of shami kahil,malak mir khail,abbas khail,shan khail,meaingan,tekadaran

As part of British India, Cherat was a hill cantonment and sanatorium for British troops, from 1861 onwards it was used during the hot weather as a health station for the British troops quartered in the hot and malarious vale of Peshawar.
