I am of the opinion that the 3RR noticeboard at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR needs streamlining into something more like WP:RFPP. I also believe a fair few other administrators feel the same way. The new noticeboard should in my opinion, be more geared towards WP:EW than WP:3RR, and should not require quite so much info to be posted. Edit warring needs to be stamped on as soon as it comes up, in order to stop tempers from flaring up. A streamlined Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR would do this! - I applaud the sentiment behind this, but I'm deeply troubled as to how such a thing would work in practice. To speak frankly, I feel that this policy is easily abused, and will lead to huge drama and conflict. Edit-warring is too much like pornography -- "I know it when I see it" is not the proper model here. The nice thing about 3RR is that it's relatively easily determinable when one has broken the rule. It isn't perfect, but it's at least a rule one can follow without difficulty. I really wouldn't know where to begin with this policy, either in terms of following it myself, or imposing blocks on transgressors. Also, it would make me very hesitant to revert BLP violations. I'd just take it to talk and see if anybody agreed, even scandalously libelous stuff could get left by editors afraid to revert someone with an axe to grind against a real person. - I mostly agree. 3RR is usually nothing more than a last-ditch effort to slow down problems that are already out of control. On the other hand, 3RR is very specific and focuses on one individual. Like IronDuke, I don't see how the noticeboard you're proposing would work. Myself, I call for more discussion and less article-editing, maybe give a few uw-3rr warnings (regardless of actual reversion-count), and look to page protection if the situation continues. --Ronz (talk) 00:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll have a rethink. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 07:56, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
