Why does "(followed by a line of ditto signs)" link to the Pokémon Ditto? -- Adhemar

[edit] Moving

I'm moving this article from Bart Chalkboard Gags to Bart chalkboard gags. (See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization).) Jason One 06:36, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Should this article be titled "Bart Simpson chalkboard gags?" --Blue387 21:16, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Touched by an angel

I thought "I was not touched by and angel down there," referred to the then running CBS TV show, 'Touched by and Angel,' rather than Michael Jackson. Considering Jackson's close relationship to the show, I would be more inclined to believe the reference to the show, than the former King of Pop.

[edit] Dubious references

Removed several cited references to adverts or other media, where the chalkboard gag is more likely referring to the same source that inspired the advert or whatever.

  • "been there done that" has been a common dismissive phrase long before either The Simpsons or Mountain Dew advertisements.
  • "I want my MTV" was a motto used by the MTV corporation. It was referred to in the song "Money for Nothing"; this does not mean the chalkboard gag is a reference to the song.
  • It is unlikely the chalkboard gag "I am not my long-lost twin" is specifically a reference to another Simpson's episode where Bart has an evil twin.

[edit] Major cleanup

Hi all, I just finished a major cleanup... sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes... if anyone has a reliable source to cite for any of the "* Unknown" entries, feel free to add them... - Adolphus79 22:42, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

I've corrected the list using SNPP.com's list. For future reference, SNPP.com is generally considered the main source for reliable information. All of the "unknowns" were for episodes that had no gag. Also removed the Season 18 listings, as the season has not yet started. No point in having it right now.

wow... thanks alot... now it's perfect... as soon as my head recovers from this list I want to do the same thing to Couch gag... - Adolphus79 04:04, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Might I suggest again, using this: http://snpp.com/guides/couch.openings.html - Josh

I certainly will for the information, but I think I will use the same formatting from TV.com, it made for a nice clean list... thanks for the link... - Adolphus79 06:31, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "New" chalkboard for Gervais rerun

About the "new" chalkboard gag for the Ricky Gervais rerun: It wasn't done for time. Both the live-action opening and the animated opening used in the rerun were full-length openings. What I'm positive happened is that the episode was originally to have an animated opening and the decision to use the live-action BBC commercial wasn't made until the week leading up to its airing. I believe what we saw on tonight's rerun is the original intended opening for the ep and the live-action version was a one-time-only event. As such, I'm gonna make the "dog doo" gag the main entry, with the bulletpoint note about the live-action gag below it. - Josh

On further thought, since the list is currently listing dates instead of episode titles, I'll leave it as it is for now. Still, I believe it should eventually be changed. - Josh

I was just thinking the same thing... maybe we put the chalkboard gag as the entry, with a note that the live action was substituted for the original airing... - Adolphus79 04:47, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject: Simpsons

OK... Anyone interested in helping cleanup the Simpsons information, join the WikiProject... if we can all work together, instead of different editors working on different pages, we can get all the Simpsons information on all of Wikipedia organized... - Adolphus79 04:47, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jason Fox's chalkboard gags in FoxTrot

I recall also seeing Jason do chalkboard gags in which he wrote code in Pascal or C which was supposed to output his promises to the teacher that he wouldn't do certain things in class. I can't remember which specific strip he does that in, though. Anyone have a link? --Idont Havaname (Talk) 20:44, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] no gag

I've noticed in a lot of the episodes in the article have no gag. Is this true? On almost every simpson's episode I've watched there is a chalkboard gag.--Taida 18:32, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

it is correct... due to time restraints by the network, the early episodes had gags, but as the show went on, the opening sequence got shorter and shorter... ever notice how some episodes don't show the full opening (grocery store and all)? - Adolphus79 18:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Standard English please

The wall-mounted communications device is called in English a blackboard. No-one in the entire world actually uses "chalkboard" (a word invented in an urban myth as an example of PC gone crazy) except some academics and the writers of this wiki page. I refer the reader to the article on the word niggardly. Nuttyskin 20:14, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I totally agree. The word is "blackboard". I have never heard of a "chalkboard" before. EuroSong talk 11:22, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Episode 'Little Orphan Millie'

In the episode 'Little Orphan Millie', I have heard that the chalkboard gag has the word 'iPod' in it. Does anybody know if the letters 'i', 'o', and 'd' are lowercase? GGHammy (talk) 03:56, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok, don't worry about it anymore. I'm told only the 'i' is lowercase. Please let me know if I'm wrong. GGHammy (talk) 04:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
