Charlie Davies (born 25 June 1986 in Manchester, New Hampshire, U.S.) is a football (soccer) striker who currently plays in the Swedish Allsvenskan for Hammarby IF.
He was a finalist for the 2006 Hermann Award, the college soccer equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, after his junior season at Boston College. During his college years he also played with Westchester Flames of the USL Premier Development League.
Davies attended the Brooks School, graduating in 2004. At Brooks, Davies also starred in wrestling, earning National Prep All-American his senior season. He was a standout player at Boston College, where he established himself as a good professional prospect and potential high-round MLS pick.[1] Instead of signing with MLS, Davies signed a contract with Swedish club Hammarby IF. While he immediately broke into the starting lineup, he had trouble finishing and spent the year split between starting and acting as a frequent substitute. On June 24 Davies netted his first goal in club play, the game-winner for Hammarby, over Faroese club Klaksvik in the Intertoto Cup, but was still unable to find the net in the league. However, in the final match of the season, Davies scored a hattrick against GAIS to go into the offseason on a positive note. He has so far scored three goals in the new season. Against GIF Sundsvall, in the derby against Djurgårdens IF and against Gefle.
[edit] International
Davies featured 10 times, mostly as a substitute, for the US U-20 team, but did not make the roster for the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship.
He made his debut for the senior US team on June 2, 2007 as a substitute in a 4-1 friendly match victory over China in San Jose, California. He was named to the 22-man squad that took part in the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela.
