Charles A. Busiel

Charles Albert Busiel (November 24, 1842–August 29, 1901), born at Meredith, New Hampshire, the son of John W. and Julia (Tilton) Busiel,² was an American manufacturer and politician from Laconia, New Hampshire. Born in 1842 in Meredith, New Hampshire, he started his political career as a Democrat and was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1878. He became a Republican over the issue of tariffs and served several years as mayor of Laconia before he was elected Governor in 1894. Charles married, November 1864, Eunice Elizabeth Preston, daughter of Worcester and Nancy (Evans) Preston, a native of Concord, New Hampshire.¹ They had one child, Frances Evelyn Busiel who later married Wilson Longstreth Smith of Germantown, Pennsylvania.¹ He died August 29, 1901² of coronary heart disease in Laconia, less than two weeks after the death by drowning of his grandson and namesake, Charles Busiel Smith.¹ He is entombed in a mausoleum at the Union Cemetery in Laconia.
