[edit] Experienced Editors wanted at Wikipedia Drawing Board

I have recently joined the Wikipedia community. I use Wikipedia all the time now to look up general knowledge and even have it as my homepage. A month or so ago, I found out about a certain religious group and decided to look them up here, but to my surprise there was no article on them yet. I negotiated the pages on how to request a new article, and since I had information to help start the article, I was directed to the Wikipedia Drawing Board. I made my request there with relevant information on the topic, and one editor had made a suggestion to verify the notability of the organization. I gave published articles on the organization for notability concerns but have not had any other editors comment on the feasibility of the article. In fact, I don't think that many experienced editors monitor the Drawing Board to help these new requestors/contributors. In looking at the Community Portal, I didn't see anything advising editors to monitor the Drawing Board to help newcomers to Wikipedia. I have already posted a request for experienced editors to help the Drawing Board on its discussion page. If experienced editors could be informed of their requested help in maintaining and monitoring the Drawing Board, then I think this will greatly aid Wikipedia in the creation of new quality content. Please let me know of any way to address this issue on my talk page--cgilbert 14:21, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research

Hello, Cgilbert76.

I looked over your entry on the Wikipedia:Drawing board, and it looks like you have plenty of references for an article on this subject. Why don't you go ahead and start the article yourself? If you cite everything in the article carefully, there should be no reason why anyone should object. If you need more info on starting an article, see Wikipedia:Your first article or Help:Starting a new page.

Do remember, though, that any type of religious article is bound to controversial. It's important to maintain a neutral point of view when writing any article on Wikipedia, and especially those with strong differing opinions.

Good luck, and happy editing! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message here or on my talk page, and I'll respond as soon as I can. —PurpleRAIN 15:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you PurpleRain for the feedback, I'll probably start the article in the next week or two. - cgilbert 16:01, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Csuri page edits

Dear Cgilbert76|,

I'm sorry but I do have to disagree with you on this. If you look at any number of notable figures mentioned in Wikipedia their relationships (affairs, marriages, children, grandchildren)are always mentioned.Wikipedia is a online biography of the persons life and knowing their relationships helps define who that person is,as well as gives insight into how they got there, If you are going to live in the public eye,the public wants to know these things. I am not as you say "obviously" one of his grandchildren.

Also, his Son David,Daughter Caroline and granddaughter H****** are as you say "persons are of notability in their own right". And any reader who is researching Csuri will find their contributions to the art field interesting as well.

Just to reference some other "artists" pages who refer to "relationships IE- affairs,marriages,children,grandchildren-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picasso

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferenc_Joachim

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_lennon

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rembrant

Just to name a few, however there are literally thousands like this. And may I remind you, some these go into graphic personal detail. Simply mentioning Csuri's 2 marriages and offspring does not warrant removal. If this is removed again I will be reporting this.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.38.228.202 (talkcontribs) 11:24, 23 January 2007

[edit] Thank you

Hi Thank you.

Can you tell me how I can keep my name and business name off of his page? Also, how can my business name be removed from all of the "edits". This is just insane. I also noticed that one of Csuri's relatives Kevin cited my name in a footnote as "the editor". I consider this slander and would like information ,if you have it on having that removed as well.

Thank you for your help, HRM

[edit] Thanks

Thats exactly what i was looking for! perfect. thuglastalk|edits 05:22, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] living=yes parameter in WPBiography banner of musical groups?

Hi, thanks for assessing so many WPBiography articles today. Before you hopefully continue to do so: are you sure that the living=yes flag should be applied to band articles too? I doubt it - please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Musicians#living=yes_flag_in_project_banner_of_musical_groups'_articles?. Best regards, BNutzer 21:04, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cher

thanks for taking the time to leave a note...it's rarely done, and i admit i should do it more often. that said...the parameters have already been lain for this infobox, i couldn't disagree with you more on your interpretation.

  • Sonny and Cher were indeed a group. in fact there were others with them, particularly in the earlier days. When they broke up, they both continued their music careers...one of 'em was a lot more successful as it turns out.
  • whereas the the term vocalist might not be the best descriptor, the template gives guidelines on what should go there. based on the guidelines, the voice is the instrument, which sorta makes sense once you think about it.
  • though not proper sentence, it is non-the-less a sentence, as well as a list. guidelines for lists require that they be alphabetical or chronological. anything with regard to significance or notability is wildly subjective and therefore not appropriate per WP:NPOV.

take a peek at Template:Infobox musical artist. the article there gives guidance and examples of formatting. cheers. --emerson7 | Talk 08:06, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 20:21, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. In addition to being a member to the WPBiography Project I am also a member of the Muscians work group. I have recently been assessing some of the muscian unassessed articles and have also added infoboxes and priorities to some of the higher rated articles. I know it will take me quite a while to get through the musician articles. After that I'd like to work on A&E unassessed articles, and then maybe to Sports. I know there are a lot of unassessed articles in addition to these three categories, but I think I would be better suited to these than to other disciplines at this time. Also, I am only rating articles up to a B-class; if the article should be nominated for GA status, then I usually let someone with better knowledge of the article's subject make that nomination. Please let me know if there are any concerns with my above practices. Thanks, - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 22:52, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

That is totally fine, and thank you helping us cut down on the amount of unassessed articles. If you come upon any page with the {{WPBiography}} template, and no class has been assigned, just add the appropriate class rating and you will be helping us out greatly. Again, thank you! --Ozgod 22:55, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks to you too!

Well, I sure didn't know that award existed, thanks much! I just noticed the volume of edits you were putting in and was in awe of your stamina, LOL! Hope you don't mind but I did actually revert the downgrade, as Heaven's Wrath rated it last year and of course I agree. I suppose if it was a big problem we could ask him to have another look, but certainly no hard feelings as we're all in this together and see that you make very valuable contributions. I generally stay away from the tedious edits because then I just fall asleep, Ha! I mostly try and fix up composer/musician articles with cats/wikifying/sources/adding to Musicians workgroup, sometimes deletion noms, etc. Its been months of reading and researching and headaches, but I finally figured out how to add audio samples - an accomplishment for me - the computer illiterate, LOL! So that's what I'm into, this week anyway.  :) And thanks for researching that weird message, I finally figured that out too but was still confused, but did figure it to be from a vandal warning. You might be right to stay away from leaving warnings, at least for early offenses, huh. Well, its very nice to meet you and I'm sure we'll run into each other again. Take a break! You're making me tired looking at your history!  :) Cricket02 23:24, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Expansion of WPBiography banners? (copied from here)

Thank you for your efforts in the current assessment drive for biography articles. I noticed from your edit of Željko Joksimović and from your contributions that you are expanding WPBiography banners from one line to multiple lines. I've found that when editing busy article talk pages, possibly with multiple project banners, that the collapsed form of the WPBiography banner is much better suited. If there is some policy to keep the expanded form, please let me know, but if not, please keep the banner in the collapsed form. Thank you. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 02:28, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment. However, I am expanding WPBiography banners with additional parameters, not from one line to multiple lines. The Željko Joksimović WPBiography banner lacked three parameters: (i) a&e-work-group, (ii) musician-work-group, and (iii) listas. I expanded the Željko Joksimović WPBiography banner by adding these three parameters to that WPBiography banner. As for keeping the parameters all on the same line, it might make my task more difficult, but I'll give it a try. -- Jreferee 02:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, Thank you again for your contributions to the Biography assessment drive. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 02:56, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I used your suggestion to keep the WPBiography parameters all on the same line and found the tagging just as quick once I got the hang of it. Thanks again for the suggestion. -- Jreferee 20:42, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Cage

i know what you mean by changing the place of birth, but i don't believe your interpretation of Template:Infobox_musical_artist#Fields is correct. i think we need to get solid clarification on exactly what the origin field is to represent. --emerson7 | Talk 22:04, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

:I'm just following the format as per the field notes and the sample of Mariah Carey. I would be in favor though of having more input from somebody with more experience from WP:Musicians. Maybe Heaven's Wrath can help us out. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 22:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

hmm...yes i see. all these many ambiguous guidlines drive me crazy! check out template_talk:Infobox_musical_artist#Origins_and_flags ....the last line in that section shows this subject has been visited before. unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any further discussion over it. --emerson7 | Talk 23:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPBio

Hi, I see you're still editing the sandbox talk. Have you got a version you think is fully functional or are you still working on it?

It's fine if you're still at work it just means I won't be able to test it until tommorow as I'm getting very tired :) OTOH, if you consider it ready I'm happy to test and apply it now. Please reply here. Any more than a few minutes I might drop off to sleep though! Cheers. --kingboyk 00:33, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm still working on it, switching the conditional around a little bit. Should be done a little later, but go ahead and go to bed. Will post a new message when it's finally working. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 00:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
No worries, I'll take a look tommorow then. Thanks very much for doing this. --kingboyk 00:40, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
It's still not quite right. If you look at User talk:Kingboyk/Sandbox you'll see some stray } and | marks, and your comments are appearing within the div of the template suggesting it isn't properly closed. I'll have another play when I've woken up... --kingboyk 13:41, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I've remedied the open template boxes problem, must have had something to do with my minor edits to the other parts of the code. I copied all the rest of the code from the WPBiography template source, removed one stranded listas clause under the royalty-work-group, and wrapped my code with an includeonly block. Hopefully that's the last of it. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 15:06, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Lovely. I'll test and apply it now, as people are starting to complain :) (Too bad I've come home to a really slow net connection, sigh) --kingboyk 19:26, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Apparently, my removal of an incorrect listas setting has perhaps cleared up a bug with some of the British Royalty categories. Unless there truly are no British Royalty pages requesting photos or infoboxes. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 15:20, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Looks like those categories were deleted because they were empty (WP:ALBUMS had the same problem). I've restored them, so they're blue again (but still empty). --kingboyk 19:26, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you Kingboyk for allowing me to make those edits to keep the listas functionality, and for crediting the changes to me in the edit summary. Looks like listas is working again. Once the Wikipedia 1.0 bot goes through, all the pages should be sorted back to their regular locations. - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 20:03, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Within the category, it's not the bot that has to catch up (he only builds the list), it's the Wikipedia database. With so many instances of the template it takes quite a few hours. Anyway, thanks for working with me and you're welcome. --kingboyk 20:09, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Should I make the appropriate changes to Template:KLF and Template:WPBeatles as well? - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 20:35, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes please, if you wouldn't mind! --kingboyk 20:38, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Criteria for biography rating

Hi Cgilbert,

I noticed your changes at William Brade and its associated talk page.

What is your criteria for rating biographies? Suppose I write an article on a Renaissance composer, using every available secondary source (OK, there's one more I didn't have: an article in the Early Music journal from Oxford that I can't get without a specific subscription). I add all information I possibly can about this little-known composer, using two separate articles in two editions of the specialist encyclopedias such as the New Grove, and look for any information in the exhaustive books on the topic by Reese and Bukofzer. The Wikipedia article now has close to all the available information short of me going to primary sources and doing original research. How does "start class" capture the reality of the situation? This is the language under "A" class: "Provides a well-written, reasonably clear and complete description of the topic, as described in How to write a great article as much as the existence of reputable sources allow it."

I realize this is a bigger issue than just what you did at William Brade, since there are thousands of articles that are covered as completely as allowed by existing sources, but people are going around tagging them as "stub" or "start", and I see it as a problem. I bring it up because it happened before (the last visitor there tagged it as "stub class"). Are these all going to be "start class" articles until someone else publishes new research on the topic?

Not intended as a criticism. I just honestly don't get what the project is up to and how it determines class. Respectfully, Antandrus (talk) 18:11, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Morning Musume

I was just wondering: why are the Fujimoto Miki and Ishikawa Rika of mid-importance to the Project, whereas the Tanaka Reina/ Kusumi Koharu are of low-importance? Is it because of their public visibility? If so, I suggest you make some changes because Kusumi outsold all of Momusu's singles of the year 2006 w/ Balalaika. She's extremely popular as a solo artist because of Kirarin Revolution. -- Ishikawa Minoru 23:43, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Composer infoboxes

You recently spoke, on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Composers or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Opera, against the blanket removal of infoboxes from articles about composers, or in an attempt to reach a compromise solution. Despite around a dozen people doing so, there are claims that consensus for their blanket removal was reached. You may be interested in the ongoing debate on the former talk page. The page http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Freedom_from_Fear says that Freedom from Fear is an essay and book stub. The page had your name on it: hence this email.

I uploaded FreedomFromFear.pdf today. The file is my summary--in my own words (except where I quote her directly, in which cases I give proper attribution)--of Aung San Suu Kyi's Freedom From Fear and Other Writings.

I have been working on this summary for months and had planned to give it to Wikipedia after learning how to use Wikipedia (I am a total newbie, don't know where to post comments, etc.).

Current events--rumors even that she has now been imprisoned--led me to upload this file before learning how to use Wikipedia: I want some competent editors to take my raw summary and make it available to your readers because what she said about democracy and human rights is so important (imho).

Thanks for uploading Image:Boorstin seekers.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
