From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cernica is a commune in the southeast part of Ilfov County, Romania, with a population of 9,300[citation needed]. On the St. George island of Lake Cernica, there is a monastery, erected around 1608.

The name of the commune is derived from the name of the vornic Cernica Ştirbei and is of Slavic origin, meaning "black".
