The fact that the performing groups often obtain a Gold w/ Distinction is wonderful because NYSSMA, while a state organization, is highly respected across the nation. Central Islip is making a name for itself in music.

Central Islip High School has an excellent music department. The Concert Choir was invited to participate in the 250th anniversary celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birth in Salzburg and Vienna, Austria. The choir, under the direction of John Anthony, raised over 130,000 dollars in private and corporate sponsors in order to make the trip a reality. The tour was named PRAVISA (PRAgue, VIenna, SAlzburg) and was a great source of pride for the entire Central Islip community.
