Central Middle School (Galveston, Texas)

Central Middle School is located in Galveston, Texas, and is currently a sixth through eighth grade school. It is also a part of Galveston Independent School District.

In fall 2008, Galveston ISD plans to convert Central into a 7-8 middle school serving all of Galveston Island. [1]

The building housing the current Central Middle School was constructed in 1954. Originally, the building housed Central High School, a segregated high school for African-Americans. As of 2007 it is a middle school for grades 6 through 8 that admits all races. The building received renovations in 1963, 1987, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 2005. [2]

During the 2004-2005 school year, Central had 671 students. [3]

No Native American students were enrolled during that year.

79% of Central students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Central requires school uniforms for its students. [4]

Students may wear the following:

  • Solid gray or navy polo shirts sans logos
  • Khaki, navy, or denim trousers and skirts
  • Brown or black shoes
  • Gray or navy jackets and sweaters
