Burnet Elementary School (Galveston, Texas)

Burnet Elementary School is a Pre-K through 5th grade school. It is a part of Galveston Independent School District. The school was named after David G. Burnet.
The school's colors are blue and gold, and the mascot is a pirate.
Starting in fall 2008, Galveston ISD plans to move the 5th grade into the campus of Weis Middle School, turning Burnet into a PK-4 campus [1].

The current (as of 2007) Burnet campus was constructed in 1960; it received renovations in 1967, 1975, 1987, and 2005 [2].
Alamo Elementary School closed in Spring 2007; its boundary was transferred to Burnet.

During the 2006-2007 school year, Burnet enrolled 576 students [3]
- 68.2% were Hispanic American
- 16% were White American
- 15.6% were African-American
- .2% were Asian American and other
78.5% were classified by GISD as being economically disadvantaged.

Burnet requires school uniforms for its students [4].
Students may wear the following:
- Royal blue or white polo shirts sans logos
- Khaki, navy, or denim trousers and skirts
- Brown or black shoes
- Royal blue or white jackets and sweaters

The students go for middle school to either Central Middle School or Weis Middle School [5].
All GISD students attend Ball High School for high school [[6]].
