Regarding the edit summary
This shouldn't be so difficult. 1. xx00s, not xx00's. 2. The 1800s ended in 1809. The 19th century ended in (let us say) 1899 - please review the difference.
I was taught in school that 1800's refers to all years from 1800-1899, and likewise for 1700's, 1900's, etc.--Bedford 16:30, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Colloquially, no question. If we were talking and you said to me, "The Frontier closed in the late 1800s", I wouldn't be pedantic enough to think you meant 1809 instead of 1890. But formally, well, do click on 1800s and 19th century and see that they in fact lead to different subjects. As for the apostrophe: see WP:SEASON: "Decades as such contain no apostrophe (the 1980s, not the 1980's)." (For that matter, it also says "Because expressions like the 1700s are ambiguous (referring to a century or a decade), they are best avoided.") Biruitorul (talk) 17:52, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
