Castell'Azzara is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Grosseto in the Italian region Tuscany, located about 120 km southeast of Florence and about 50 km east of Grosseto. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,733 and an area of 64.8 km².[1]
It occupies the slopes of the Monte Amiata, and was once important for the extraction of cinnabar. It first under the Aldobrandeschi, and then part of the Sforza County of Santa Fiora until 1624.
Castell'Azzara borders the following municipalities: Piancastagnaio, Proceno, Santa Fiora, Semproniano, Sorano.
