Welcome!

Hello, Careless hx, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome!  Natalie 04:43, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}}. Confused about disambiguation. I have created Green Flag to describe the UK motoring organisation of the same name. When searching for 'green flag', directed to Green flag disambiguation page. I have added a link to my page there, but the disambiguation page is in Category:Flags which makes sense for the other links but not for mine. Are there any changes I need to make to either my article or the disambiguation page?

You can add a new section to the disambig page (i.e. Green Flag may refer to a corporation) and place your entry under this section instead of the single section currently listed. See greek for another disambig page and how the various meanings are organized.--Ccson 15:05, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Howdy :)

Hi Careless, I noticed you recently began using Twinkle, and I saw you had a little scuffle earlier, I'd like to offer some help, if you're planning on working on RCs. I found out the hard way that a lot of issues delve quite deeply into some of the policies here that may not be covered in the links provided to you above, so I would be more than happy to provide you with a little more comprehensive list of useful links, if you'd like. Just let me know. ArielGold 18:59, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

As promised, I've added them to your user page, so anyone coming to it will have them as well. Feel free to move them to this talk page, or any page you desire, such as User:Careless hx/Links. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Cheers! ArielGold 20:12, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nantes

Was checking to see if you had added it here Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection? thanks Michellecrisp 02:52, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

You've just done it, thanks. Michellecrisp 02:52, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copyedit

Hey thanks man for the copyedit. It had been so long I had nearly given up on the LoCE. Good work. I'll check with someone who actually owns the game (I brought it up to GA without ever playing it. It's fun to do) and see if they can expand on the scenarios. Regarding your farm question, you wrote it correctly; citizens don't need to tend to the self-sufficient farms. I know a guy who has worked on tons of VG articles, so I'll check with him about the list form approach you've chosen (he actually passed it as a GA all those months back). If I decide to go to FA, I want to make sure it won't get ripped to pieces because it's a list. It may be for the best if it is kept as prose, I don't know. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again.--Clyde (talk) 17:35, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I talked to a friend of mine (Deckiller maybe you've met him) and he recommended that I keep it as prose. I think I'll rewrite so it is more crisp, and look for references. Thanks for all the other work, it looks good. Also "Please don't, however, do any extensive copy-editing of my work, or edit anything that I haven't yet covered." came off a little weird. I will probably have to edit it again, as there's always more to do. I hope that's okay.--Clyde (talk) 03:03, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh and that Tr thing to AoC was someone trying to add it in a different language. I don't know how to fix the text, but I'll play with it.--Clyde (talk) 03:04, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to the LoCE

Hi Careless hx, and welcome to the League of Copyeditors. From your comments on the talk page it sounds as though you'll fit right in ;) The project has a backlog of articles awaiting copyedit (the index is here) - feel free to dive in! I joined the LoCE back in May, and have since also been reviewing articles for GA status - I find the two go well together, as the GA criteria apply to copyediting too. The project talk page is fairly quiet as far as wikiprojects go, so if you have questions you may find you get a quicker response by posting them directly on other members talk pages; if you need a hand I'd be happy to try and help out.

I've had a browse through the articles you edited, and you've done a great job. Your prose is readable and flows well, and you have tightened up the grammar of the texts without making them wordy or convoluted. There are a few points on article compliance with the Manual of Style that you also could have altered, mainly relating to section order and formatting citations, but these are technical issues and not all copyeditors feel it comes under their remit. Excellent work so far though - Wikipedia is seriously short of talented copyeditors - and I hope you remain with us for a long time to come!

All the best, EyeSereneTALK 18:13, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. Re the procedural changes, that tag's been on the page since I joined. The pertinent discussion is on the same page here (but I'm guessing you've already read it per your comments). From the look of it, it died out with no consensus either way - I think I'd have supported the proposal if I'd been around at the time. You are right though, it is difficult to keep the articles straight when the lists are not properly maintained.
Re userpage design, unfortunately I don't know any guides to wikimarkup (at least, I've never found any!), although I've found the Editor handbook useful for some things (like tables and infoboxes). You're welcome to reuse code from my pages, or if you prefer I'd be happy to help out with a design/explanations etc. EyeSereneTALK 21:57, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copyeditor needed

I am in need of a copyeditor for the Captain Falcon article to make it more similar to the Link page, take a look specifically at the last paragraph of the characteristics section (When he is not taking part in races....) which is taken from this source and again welcome to the LoCE! FMF 16:20, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a look at it. I can't guarantee it will be Link standard as that is a FA but I can probably improve it. --carelesshx talk 17:43, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

"Even by video game article standards, this source is inadequate - is there a link to a manual or official nintendo source available?" I know of a better source but I wasn't too sure about adding it so I went here. That site also is the only official source that has his full name. I have his whole profile so should I add all of it be in the "quote" parameter? FMF 15:54, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Ick... that's a tricky one. The reason I added that comment was that I though an unofficial guide to a completely different game was perhaps not the best source, particularly as I thought there would be an official source elsewhere. I've had a look for myself, and I haven't been able to find anything either. I guess, under the circumstances, it's better than no source at all. Maybe replace my comment with something along the lines of 'please replace this with a better source if one can be found'? --carelesshx talk 17:30, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Besides adding that comment, should the current source stay in addition to fzerox.com (with quote)? FMF 18:20, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Captain Falcon

OK, I'm not sure about this: you gave an IP address a final warning at 01:11 about vandalising Captain Falcon - then you reported this to WP:AIV for vandalising the article again at 01:13. Yet that IP's record only shows one edit to the article - at 00:32. Certainly confused me - Can you explain? ELIMINATORJR 00:22, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

  • No problem - I guessed that was what happened. To report to WP:AIV, the IP (or user) needs to have vandalised again after the warning. So if he/she does so again, make sure to report again. Thanks, ELIMINATORJR 00:29, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] B&Q refs

Hi, I noticed that you tagged 'The Future?' section of B&Q as not citing sources, I've tidied this up now and have added 11 sources and think this is sufficient, can you check and if you agree remove the tag? Regards, RaseaC 14:46, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HMCS Acadia and CSS Acadia edits

Hi, I noticed you mentioned that my edits to the HMCS Acadia article were considered vandalism while I was in the process of moving information pertaining to the CSS Acadia to that separate article. Everything should be fixed now as the HMCS Acadia unit name and the CSS Acadia are both now properly categorized. Apologies for the confusion.Plasma east 18:15, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Congress

I see you tagged the page of Congressman Lantham, but this is indeed public domain work, originally hosted here: http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=L000109. Works of the US federal gov't are in the public domain, and this site comes from the archives of Congress. Unfortunately some idiot on the website ourcampaigns (whatever that is) used the text from the Bioguide and the bot thought that I got the info from there. However, if you'll check the bottom of the article on ourcampaigns, you'll see a link back to the Bioguide as the original source. Mr. Vitale 04:46, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of synagogues in Omaha

I hope that you will revisit the List of synagogues in Omaha page and reconsideration your AfD. – Freechild (¡!¡!¡!¡) 06:25, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Have you revisited List of synagogues in Omaha? Looking at the edit "history" page and looking at the delta since your AfD posting, the current page bears little resemblance to the page you nominated. Pdfpdf 11:33, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

See the AfD page for my updated comments --carelesshx talk 13:03, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I draw your attention to the AfD page, in particular: Question: Has the nominator withdrawn? Because if so, we can close this. --UsaSatsui 23:25, 16 September 2007 (UTC) -- Pdfpdf 02:53, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Griffith University "vandalism"

I have read the wiki: Vandalism policies and I am still at a loss as to how you classify my contributions as "vandalism". I simply added the newly appointed Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser as a noteable alumnus and, after the matter had been discussed, removed the "gossip column" style union section. If that be vandalism, then I really don't know how. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.245.189.169 (talk) 08:13, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ

Hi. I noticed you nom'd this page for speedy deletion on the grounds that it was a non-working redirect. It appears to link to a valid article (although a somewhat dubious and stubby one), so I removed your CSD tag. Just wanted to let you know. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 04:17, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copyedit request

James Milner I'm hopful that I can make this a FAC within the next week or so. Thanks in advance. Buc 06:13, 23 September 2007 (UTC) Which image? Buc 07:30, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the copyedit. Everything looks good except for a few minor issues.

  • What are these large hyphens (—) for?
  • You removed quotation marks, I added then in to remove any POV issues.
  • The image you entered into the Leeds section show him playing for England and is from only a few months ago so it doesn’t really fit.
  • Likewise the image in “Style of play” has nothing to do with his Style of play.
  • You mention a problem with one of the images. Which one and why is it a problem?
  • Check the contradictory sentence again, I’ve tried to fix it.
  • I think the sentence at the start of the Career section is redundant and looks a bit odd since it barely one line before a massive paragraph.

Buc 21:14, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

The copyright on this image says "contact me if you wish to use this image" and I have done that. Buc 22:07, 24 September 2007 (UTC) Sorry to keep bugging you. Do you think you could check the "Style of play" section again. Buc 14:13, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, maybe I should have said before the reason I've requested this is because I've been told that the section read more like a list of random fact and there is not much of a flow to it. So that's what I'd mainly like you to fix. Thanks again. Buc 19:44, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry but I need you to check over it again. I've received a Strong oppose for it's FAC due to it's poor wording. But I'm not great at wording articles myself and IMO he's exsplained what he isn't changing very clear. When you can find the time can you check the FAC page and see if you fixed it accordingly. Buc 17:12, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

You don't have to rush into editing all. I'm going to be busy over the next two day so it's all yours till then. But please read the feedback from Chensiyuan and Manderiko here before you do anything as that it the reason I've asked you to edit again. I've done what I can to address there comments about the wording and flow of the writing but being dyslexic my ability imited. Thanks again man. Buc 20:57, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Feathers & Fools

hey, like two minutes you nominated Feathers & Fools for speedy deletion, I changed it into stub, so is it ok now? or is it still speedy deletion criteria? Warrior4321 03:52, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

re your comment on my talk page: R U KIDDING ME? I have seen stubs with just one sentence, and you're not gonna let me keep mine?! My article gives a brief summary? what else do you expect me to write about it? Warrior4321 04:05, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia

Wow, clearly you are very involved with Wikipedia. You must not have much of a life, considering how much time you spend on here. Still, I wouldn't want to vandalize your page or anything. Otherwise I might be blocked from editing. Oh Noez! Just stopping by to say hi. Have a great weekend. :) 68.46.238.3 06:26, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nonsense article

I did read it and the article seemed a bit silly, but I think the nonsense tag is meant for patent nonsense, like "asdlkjfaksl;dfjasdj" or "Jim is a cool guy" or other such garbage someone might type on a page. I don't know if that "porn" company is real or not, but it certainly didn't establish any notability according to Wikipedia guidelines. Cheers. ++Arx Fortis 06:52, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I just re-read it. I missed some of the "finer details" of the article (which I will refrain from mentioning on your talk page). Feel free to revert to the nonsense tag. ++Arx Fortis 06:58, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedied snooker thing

If there was anything appreciably different about List of all the players to have been in the top 16 from Top-16 snooker players, could you restore a copy of the former to my userspace? There may be something salvageable in it. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 20:01, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inappropriate Pages

What policy do you refer to which defines inappropriate redirects?

If an entered term produces no result, and can be redirected to a result that accurately reflects the content of the term, (e.g. "fuckass" redirecting to "anal sex"), what rule does this violate? If I create an article for "fuckass" that depicts pornographic images or advertises adult content, this would be inappropriate. Redirecting the term to an existing article is not inappropriate. In fact, it is very heavily precedented at Wikipedia.

For example, see the offensive term "whore" which redirects to "prostitution." This is no different than "fuckass" redirecting to "anal sex," "fuckhole" redirecting to "bodily orifice," or "fuckstick" redirecting to "dildo." You are introducing a NNPOV into the editing process.

The term "assfuck," not created by me, redirects to anal sex and has since MAY 2004. You are massively inconsistent with this and other precedents.

[edit] League of Copyeditors roll call

Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:TLOZ Phantom Hourglass Link.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:TLOZ Phantom Hourglass Link.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not.
