The Carolina Monarchs were a short-lived ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They played in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Coliseum. In 1997, as the Hartford Whalers moved to North Carolina to become the Carolina Hurricanes and took over the Greensboro Coliseum for two seasons, the Hurricanes organization bought the franchise and moved it to New Haven, Connecticut as the Beast of New Haven.
