Carolina Ferni

Carolina Ferni (August 20, 1839, Como - June 4, 1926, Milan) was an Italian violonist and operatic soprano.

She began her career as a violonist in Paris and Brussels, and later studied voice with famed soprano Giuditta Pasta. She made her stage debut in Turin, as Leonora in La favorite, in 1862.

She sang at La Scala in Milan (1866-68) as Norma, Selika, Saffò, etc. In Mercuri's opera Il Violino del Diavolo, she both sang and played the violin.

She was married to baritone Leone Giraldoni, with whom she had a son, Eugenio, who later also became a baritone. She retired from the stage in 1883, and opened a singing school in Milan, and later in Saint Petersburg, amongst her students were soprano Eugenia Burzio and her son Eugenio.
