The Carleton Ravens are the athletic teams that represent Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The most notable sports team for Carleton is the men's basketball team. In men's basketball, the Ravens have won the last five national men's championships, and went on an 87-game winning streak from 2003 until it was snapped on January 8, 2006 by the Brock Badgers. Ten days later, the Ottawa Gee-Gees ended the Ravens' 56-game home winning streak. The Ravens finished 2nd in the World University Basketball Championships in 2004.

They are also current nordic skiing provincial champions in both men's and women's events (2 time defending men's champion). Carleton is located in the OUA Conference.

Carleton used to have a Canadian football team that had some success in the mid 1980s, but due to poor performances and a number of other reasons, the sport was cut in 1998. It had been in existence since 1945. [1] [2] Carleton's best football season was in 1985 when they lost in the Churchill Bowl to the Calgary Dinos 56-14, after having won the Dunsmore Cup. [3] There has been a movement to revive the team, but the University is not entertaining the idea.

Carleton's biggest rivals are the Ottawa Gee-Gees of the University of Ottawa. When Carleton had a football team, the annual match between the cross-town rivals was known as the "Panda Game".[4] The Panda Game originated in 1955. Carleton just won 13 games to Ottawa's 31. 20,000 people attended the game in 1987 at Frank Clair Stadium. [5]

Today, the rivaly is heated between the men's basketball teams, as the Ottawa Gee-Gees are also a very successful team. On January 23, 2007, the two basketball teams faced off at Scotiabank Place in front of nearly 9,720 spectators- a record crowd for a regular season CIS basketball game[6]. The Gee-Gees won 64-62. [7] This event was known as the "Capital Hoops Classic".
