There appears to be a problem here:

Official Opening The official opening of the Canso Causeway took place on August 13, 1955 when several thousand people attended ceremonies which included a gala parade of 100 bagpipers heralding Cape Breton's connection to the North American mainland. Sadly the ceremony was ruined when the causeway fell apart and sunk to the bottom of St. George's Bay. It took another 2 years before they could finnally finish rebuilding it and motorists could pass across from the island to the mainland.

Whatever!
