California's 8th State Senate district is one of 40 Senate Districts. It is currently represented by Democratic Senator Leland Yee of San Francisco.

The 8th district covers almost half of San Francisco and all but southeastern San Mateo County. Major cities in the San Mateo portion of the district include Belmont, Brisbane, Broadmoor, Burlingame, Colma, Daly City, El Granada, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Highlands-Baywood Park, Hillsborough, Millbrae, Montara, Moss Beach, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Bruno, San Mateo, South San Francisco, and Woodside

The 8th district is a strongly Democratic district. As of 2006, 52.6% of registered voters were registered Democrats while 21.6% were registered Republicans.
