Café Rouge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Café Rouge is a French-styled restaurant chain in the UK, offering an all-day serving of main course meals, lighter snacks and salads as well as an extensive wine list. It is part of a bigger restaurant network owned by Tragus Ltd.
The restaurant chain gained much exposure after being mentioned often in the 1996 novel Bridget Jones's Diary, with the main character Bridget Jones (and her friends) visiting her local branch of the restaurant regularly throughout the novel.
[edit] Tipping controversy
Café Rouge, along with some other restaurant chains, has been criticised in many quarters due to their practice of using tips/gratuities from customers who have paid by credit or debit card to make up staff salaries to the national minimum wage, rather than passing them on directly.
