Burton Ridge

Burton Ridge is an area of Adair County, KY named for its abundance of families with the surname Burton. It centers around Purdy and Christine, two small unincorporated towns in Adair County. It is widely known to be, historically, the most "rough-and-tumble" area of Adair County; thus, spawning an abundance of local legend detailing the area's lore.

Many Burtons throughout the United States are able to trace their Genealogy to this area of Adair County. Although the area is very small and its economy is virtually non-existent it is relatively well known as former residents of this area have moved to various parts of the country in search of employment. Many from Burton Ridge moved to Columbus, IN and Edinburgh, IN to work for Cummins Engine Company; Cincinnati, OH; Peroia, IL and Springfield, IL to work for Caterpillar Inc.
