[edit] members-only club

For me clubs are members-only per defenition; if you are in it then you are a member :). So the formulation "members-only club" says the same thing twice (there is a word for that in retoric, but it escapes me). Thue | talk 13:52, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I think it refers to an actual building wherein only members could enter - I agree clubs imply membership, but a (e.g.) night club needn't necessarily restrict entry only to members of said club. So there ya go. (Anonymous)

[edit] Some disambiguation needed?

I think some degree of disambiguation is needed on this page because from what I know the Buena Vista Social Club can indicate more than what is here.

Right now the Buena Vista Social Club wikipedia entry only consists of two things; the album and the movie. The name, however, also includes "a membership club that was at its height during the 1940s" which is only briefly mentioned. Lots of music (vinyls and CDs too) were produced and lovingly preserved by cuban music lovers. Some history could be included as well.

I don't really know enough on this to write the article - can someone more knowledgeable than me help out?

[edit] Questionable Claim in Article

I don't believe that it is true that "The musicians featured on this album were all once part of the Buena Vista Social Club, a membership club that was at its height during the 1940s;", as claimed in the article. At the very least, it is questionable and requires something to back it up (e.g. a citation). In the documentary movie of the same name, on the director's audio commentary track (which can be enabled under "special features" on the DVD), the director claims that Compay Segundo had in fact never been to the location of the Buena Vista Social Club. This is during the segment where Compay is driving around asking everyone where it is - another indication that he probably wasn't a "member". In addition, I got the impression (although I am by no means certain) that the club was actually a music and dance club that was open to the public.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Buenavistasocialclubalbumcover.jpeg

Image:Buenavistasocialclubalbumcover.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
