Buddy film

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A buddy film is a film in which the central characters are two friends, who appear together throughout the film. The "buddies" in such films may be friends, relations other than by marriage (i.e. brothers, sisters, or cousins), or partners in some job such as the police force. The buddy cop film is a popular sub-genre of the buddy film. Buddy films usually feature male characters, but there have also been some female buddy films as well.

Buddy films usually revolve around the friendship that exists (or more often, develops) between the two principal characters. Comedy usually comes from the places where their personalities clash, but their shared experiences usually unite the two characters in a very strong bond. The most recurring theme of the genre is loyalty towards one's buddy when logic (or outside forces) would demand otherwise.
