Now that you're responding

Can you tell me why you vandalized my user page, as you did here? Bstone (talk) 22:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I am sorry about that, I was unsure as to why you claimed to be "forbidden from entering Saudi Arabia." and thereby tried to edit out only that one box. I apologize. Light theworld (talk) 18:16, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Heya...

Can we talk? :) Regards, NonvocalScream (talk) 13:02, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

FBI/Terrorist stuff

I just wanted to say thanks. I know you're getting a hard time on ANI, but I think you did the right thing. I always take suicide notes, death threats and things like that seriously. Bravo. Toddst1 (talk) 05:39, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Exactly, I totally agree. I don't understand the people who were saying that the threat just had to be ignored. It was not their call to make, but rather the FBI's call. They have people there trained to deal with such threats and they can exercise their professional judgment as to whether a threat is serious and deserves a follow-up. I also don't think that a public discussion of the episode is going to "feed the trolls'. On the contrary, people inclined to irresponsible behavior will read the discussion and see that if they do something similarly stupid, there will be serious consequences (like a visit from the FBI). As far as I am concerned, you absolutely did the right thing. Thanks! Nsk92 (talk) 23:06, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
The Real Life Barnstar
I, WilyD 11:50, 6 May 2008 (UTC), hereby award Bstone for taking the correct real life action where action was needed, ignoring the naysaying from the rifraff. A good online citizen and real life citizen.
Thanks
It's a breath of fresh air to find someone with the courage to do the right thing and take action. Thank you on behalf of the wikipedia community. Toddst1 (talk) 21:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

If policy is descriptive and not prescriptive, as is supposed to be the case, then there's no need to argue over it - just keep the standard practice as it (realistically) is now, and it'll be policy. I'll weigh in, but the reality is this. WilyD 14:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia building threat

Thanks for making the report! NawlinWiki (talk) 18:39, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

My pleasure. Bstone (talk) 18:40, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

WP:TOV

I'd appreciate you not using WP:TOV as a seeming source of policy, as you recently did at WP:AN/I. TOV is an essay. It is not any sort of authority, binding or otherwise, on what a person should or should not do. Giving the impression that it is, is rather disingenuous. I understand your extreme closeness to the page, based on your contributions to it, but at this point you're really edging into the area of self-congratulation, which is not what Wikipedia is about. SWATJester Son of the Defender 21:46, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Swat, you're not exactly a neutral party. You note to me was a personal one, not in your role of administrator. I view WP:TOV as a policy and will suggest to others that they do the same.
WP:TOV is not a policy, nor guideline, it is an essay. For you to suggest that it is policy is disruptive. I'd suggest you stop. SWATJester Son of the Defender 21:58, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
You will block me as I suggest people take threats serious? This is one for WP:LAME. Again, you are not a neutral party. Bstone (talk) 22:00, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
No, I would block you for pretending an essay is policy, and trying to enforce it as such. And I am a neutral party here. It's not the case that someone who opposes you is not a neutral party. SWATJester Son of the Defender 22:02, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
SWAT, you certainly not a neutral party here and I think you're losing whatever objectivity you have left. Please stop. Bstone (talk) 22:06, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Rfb participation thanks

Hello, Bstone.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. As you felt the need to oppose my candidacy, I would appreciate any particular thoughts or advice you may have as to what flaws in my candidacy you perceived and how you feel they may be addressed. Once again, thank you for your participation. -- Avi (talk) 20:34, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Bolt bus

A tag has been placed on Bolt bus requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Amog |Talk 15:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

AfD nom

It wasn't frivolous. As far as I could tell, it didn't appear to be notable. I didn't know that the length of time a store or business has been around was something that caused said store or business to be notable.— dαlusT@lk / Improve 22:29, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

MfD nomination of User:Bstone/Wikipedia:BSTONEISAWESOME

User:Bstone/Wikipedia:BSTONEISAWESOME, a page you created, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Bstone/Wikipedia:BSTONEISAWESOME and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Bstone/Wikipedia:BSTONEISAWESOME during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. SWATJester Son of the Defender 07:17, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

If you read my comment on above MfD, the problem is that the "policy" message in your page is identical to the one on official policies I changed it to the "humour" tag. If you want to keep that box, I suggest that you make a total rewording of the message so it's clear that it's not actually an official policy. This way you wouldn't have the same problem again. --Enric Naval (talk) 16:57, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy delete of WP:BIA

Hi there, I gave an explanation on my user talk. --Eivind (t) 09:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

fyi

I commented on one of your recent taggings.

Question -- how closely do you read articles before tagging them? A7 states the article lacks an explicit assertion of notability. This article had an explicit assertion of notability.

Don't the deletion policies specifically recommend quality control volunteers do not do what you did -- tag an article within minutes of its creation?

I am not trying to pick an argument with you. But I strongly feel that the volunteers who perform the quality control of new articles can be way too hasty. I urge you to be less hasty. Geo Swan (talk) 21:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Rebecca S. Snyder

Hi there - you tagged this article for speedy-deletion per criterion A7, which is that the article is about a person which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant (taken from WP:CSD). I have therefore declined the speedy, as the article does make a claim to notability. If you wish to take this further, you should probably take this to AfD. Happy B-Day, same-birthday-as-me-person!

Hungry? Here's a little snack for you on your birthday, from the Wikipedia Birthday Committee! Have a great day, Bstone/Archives/05/2008!

Re: Peter Wall

(copied over from my talk page:) I added {{inuse}}, because actually that was more appropriate: I even was in an edit conflict with you when you added the speedy. Thanks. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 21:45, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

(copied over from my talk page:) I did this because {{hangon}} was not appropriate. I will do it again. And please stop adding the speedy tag while I am actively writing the article: please respect the {{inuse}} tag. Many thanks. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 22:01, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I've now taken the {{inuse}} tag off, and am basically done for now. Add whatever tag you like if you have a problem with the prose, sourcing, or whatever. I hope you see now how inappropriate it was for you to repeatedly add speedy-delete, however. Thanks. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 00:43, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

(copied over from my talk page:) I'm afraid that your tags were what was illegitimate. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 03:35, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Incidentally, I find it somewhat ironic that at the top of this page you say that you will instantly revert all templated messages that you receive, given that you seem rather fond of sending such messages yourself! Anyhow, happy birthday none-the-less. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 04:18, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I noticed this CSD tagging of the Peter Wall article. That's not acceptable to keep tagging it like that, without giving editors a chance to write the article. It's particularly not acceptable when the article creator is an established editor, such as jbmurray. Instead of tagging, I strongly recommend inquiring on the talk page and expressing concerns there. --Aude (talk) 14:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

He removed it because the CSD tagging was inappropriate. Such templated warnings are also highly inappropriate to use against established users. Please don't do that again. --Aude (talk) 14:48, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
What you quote is worded with terms like "may" and "should" and says nothing about blocking. Please use common sense. Such quick tagging (and retagging) of articles without giving editors a chance is the type of action that discourages good editors and can drive them away from the project. Ditto for using templated warnings. User:Jbmurray and User:Geo Swan are two of our best editors. Regards. --Aude (talk) 15:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, ho ho. If you could point out the elements of the article that look to you like an advert, then I'd be grateful. You could perhaps add some comments at this page while you're at it. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 15:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

AfD of Peter Wall

The AfD nomination seems rather bizarre given that the article is very well sourced - can you please elaborate, ideally within the AfD how exactly this fails WP:N. Fritzpoll (talk) 15:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

RE: ani oops

=/ That's weird. I did have to close the browser because it conked, but I didn't think I did that. I'll add it back. Apologies! weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 22:24, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, alright. Yeah, it is, I think the data base is still feeling the hangover of SUL... weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 22:27, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you noticed, or intended to do so, but you stuck your support under the neutral column. xenocidic (talk) 22:36, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

no problem. you might also want to delete the errant neutral. xenocidic (talk) 22:41, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I deleted the errant neutral, as the bot was picking up duplicate voters. xenocidic (talk) 23:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
actually, I indented it to prevent it from getting counted as a dupe. xenocidic (talk) 23:22, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
