Bratislava is the capital city of Slovakia. It is located on the Danube river, in the south-western part of the country, bordering Austria and Hungary. First mentioned in 907, the city was developing thanks to its position. Before total renaming to Bratislava in 1919, the city was known as Pressburg in German, Pozsony in Hungarian and Prešporok in Slovak.

Bratislava has 425,000 inhabitants as of 2005 and covers an area of 367.58 km².
