Brandon Paul League (born March 16, 1983 in Sacramento, California) is a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is married with two children.
League was known for a live arm, and a fastball that reached 100 mph - usually topping out at 97 mph. His fastball has a sinking motion to it. As well as his fastball, his repertoire includes a slider, and a changeup. In his first four seasons, he has been used as a relief pitcher, often as a setup man.
In March of 2007, he experienced a shoulder problem that lead to a large drop in the velocity of his fastball[1]. This led to being placed on the 60-day disabled list.
On July 15, 2007 Brandon League was activated from the 60-day disabled list, and has returned to the Blue Jays bullpen. On July 16, League returned to the mound to face the same team he made his major league debut against, the New York Yankees. While he has not regained his previous velocity, League has improved the location of his pitches. His fastball is now clocked at 93-95 mph rather than 97-99 mph as it was previously. League has said that he is not concerned with his drop in current velocity and expects for it to fully return throughout the season and into 2008[citation needed].
League was optioned back to Triple A Syracuse after a loss against the Oakland Athletics in extra innings in April.
