Boyle County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Its county seat is Danville, Kentucky[1].

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 183 square miles (474 km²), of which, 182 square miles (471 km²) of it is land and 1 square mile (3 km²) of it (0.60%) is water.

Boyle County was formed on February 15, 1842 from sections of Lincoln County and Mercer County. It is named for John Boyle, Congressman, Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, and U.S. District Judge.

During the American Civil War, the Battle of Perryville took place here on October 8, 1862, fought between the Confederate Army of the Mississippi and the Union Army of the Ohio. 7407 men fell in the battle.

As of the census[2] of 2000, 27,697 people, 10,574 households, and 7,348 families resided in the county. The population density was 152 people per square mile (59/km²). There were 11,418 housing units at an average density of 63 per square mile (24/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 88% White, 10% Black or African American, 1% Asian, 1% from other races, and 1% from two or more races. 1% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.

31% of households had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54% were married couples living together, 13% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31% were non-families. 27% of all households were made up of individuals and 12% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.87.

23% of the population was under the age of 18, 11% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 14% 65 or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96 males.

The median income for a household was $35,241, and for a family was $42,699. Males had a median income of $33,411 versus $23,635 for females. The per capita income was $18,288. About 9% of families and 12% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16% of those under age 18 and 12% of those age 65 or over.
