Split
Can somebody please split this into sections so that it is easier to edit? Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:54, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes indeed. It's a bit clumsy to update an entry. However, I do like the columns as they are. --Ligulem 10:51, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- I made a split. --Ligulem 11:08, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
What is the difference between this page and Wikipedia:Registered bots? Jon Harald Søby 11:46, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- That page is outdated and this page is a list of all users who identify them selfs as a bot account this includes AWB accounts that have the bot template, This also covers all flagged and non flagged bots also. Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 17:36, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- If Wikipedia:Registered bots is outdated, why can't we update/change/merge it? Do we really have to maintain two pages? It seems a bit odd to me to have to maintain this page here and Wikipedia:Registered bots. But maybe I didn't understand all the finer points here yet. Or is this page here intended to replace Wikipedia:Registered bots? --Ligulem 10:51, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- once this page is complete I plan to merge/replace Wikipedia:Registered bots but want this page up and operating first. Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 15:13, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- Now in sections (not that anyone will read this) --·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 17:34, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Discontinued
There should be a different marking for bots that haven't had their status filled in. Right now, a lot of functional bots are marked as "discontinued" because that was the default setting on the page. Also, for some reason, people are blocking bots because they are listed as "discontinued" on this page... Jon Harald Søby 16:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Malfuctioning
I thought a malfuctioning category might be useful. I.e. this bot has been blocked because it is malfuctioning so was bold and added one. Hopefully others agree Nil Einne 20:44, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Manual bots?
Should people be adding their name to this list if they simply run AWB manually (e.g. User:SeventyThreeBot)? I wouldn't say that makes them bots. Rocket000 (talk) 12:41, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Cleaning it up.
Note: I am no longer continuing to work on this. Someone else needs to, though. To save you the trouble, some of the work has already been done for you. It's in the edit history of my sandbox. [1] And it's in the recent edit history of the bot status page. ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 06:40, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I posted about this on WP:BON and spoke about it with User:Betacommand. Basically, this list is a bit messy. Over the next few days, I'm going to work on cleaning it up. I started by making it all one wiki-table, since it's easier to sort one wiki-table than seven. Now I just need to go through the list alphabetically and update\verify the information. On labeling a bot active\inactive, I don't really have any set criteria, but some of them, looking through the list, haven't made edits in about six months or more. In cases like that, they're clearly inactive. If it's something like a month or two, I might just leave it as it is and leave a notice on the bot-owner's talkpage. ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 23:20, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- give it about a 90 day window. βcommand 23:39, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I did the basic work that needed to be done: made the templates, so that the information can be quickly automatically generated instead of needing to be entered tediously by hand. Right now, people just need to go through the list and verify and update the information as necessary. I'm going to start by just fixing any bad entries first and then anybody with a bot could try to update stuff like the "activity" flag automatically.
By that, I mean:
- If bot flag is currently not trial or not malfunctioning:
- If bot has not made edits in 3 months: set flag to inactive
- If bot has not made edits in (6 months? a year?) set flag to discontinued.
- Else: set flag to active
Also, I was thinking. Adding another column of information would be useful: The bot flag. Just a single column: "Bot flagged? Y\N" Again, that could be added by a bot just checking the flags. ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 20:15, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
To make this go a lot quicker, you could also create a bot to run through the list and notify any users whose information is incomplete. ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 20:30, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
In order to deal with users who are only active on other wikis, I'm working on creating a third parameter for Template:User that will allow a person to use the same template, but with interwiki links. ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 22:24, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Removing a name from the list.
I came across a strange entry I'm going to remove.
User:Bennyboyz3000bot: He only made 6 contributions, one of which had the summary "trial run." His name was added by Betacommand (likely copied from the old records), so it would take some digging to find out who created this account. With only 6 contribs, it was never really much of a "bot" and it's not really worth the effort to go back and find out who made it and why, in order to update the records. ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 20:59, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
