[edit] Coaching

Hi. Tbo 157 invited me to help coach you. I'd be happy to do so. Please be patient though as I don't always get much time on here these days. But as long as you're not in a tearing hurry, I am sure we can do something. Anyway, just saying hello and I will see you on the coaching page. --John (talk) 04:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Happy Birthday

(Even though its nearly 3 weeks late). I had a glance at the article. It has pictures good. A big table OK. Sub-titles good. You will need refs for the hook that you use. What you need to concentrate on is the plain text before yoy get to the table. It is THIS text that needs to grow by a factor of five in a few days. I'd asdvise drafting a new bit in a Sandbox and get it all ready in your own time. DYK like pictures, tables and footnotes, they insist on refs, but they measure plain text. Oh and "welcome back" ... when I said "hide" in derbyshire ... I knew you lived here. I meant walk away from disputes id necessary... wikipedia is a big place. Victuallers (talk) 17:42, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Cheers Vic!
I'll copy it into the same box the other DYK is in - Box 4. Please let me know how i'm doing!
Does it matter if all (or most of) the refs go to the same place? (The guidebook/British Trams Online/LCCTT)?
More pics will follow - I have one of nearly every tram!
So the text should be the intro and then the bits about the cars? How big is a factor of five would you say?
Thanks,

[edit] National Tramway Museum tramcar list

I ask you to leave the redirect in tact. Of course nothing links to it. Nothing is supposed to link to redirects. See WP:REDIRECT to learn more about them. Also, don't re-add speedy deletion tags if they have been removed. If you feel so strongly about this, you are welcome to try WP:RFD. This redirect could be useful, when people search. - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:38, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] busy for next few days

I might find time, but if you are really interested then cut and paste the plain text (only) into a word processor like word and ask it how many characters there are. Then do it for the latest version. Divide one by the other .... This is what the admins on RYK will know. They will also check that in total you hsve more than 2000 chars... you will have. Try and avoid bullets. Wijipedia prefers paragraphs Victuallers (talk) 16:06, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Ok, will do Victuallers!
I'm on holiday until the 18th from tommorrow, so I guess we'll continue it until then!
If anyone finds my info and puts it on, is that allowed?
Thanks,
BG7 16:07, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
RE bullets... i'll try and get rid of them. There left over from a Trivia section on the main page. They'll be incorporated into the tram's section! The unreffed ones will go if I cant find a ref soon...
Also, does the characters fivefold thing include wiki markup/titles etc, or just the actual plaintext?
Thanks,
BG7 16:26, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

Morbid fascination draws me here, but when I see an edit summary such as

Undid revision 189516491 by Rjd0060 (talk) undo... there we go, ive broken 3RR... what ya gonna do? ban me?

I'm often compelled to respond, now, I'm doing it here and not at Special:Blockip but I can let you into a little secret, the next time you break the 3RR rule and revert war over something as utterly pathetic as a redirect, the answer to your question will be an unequivocal "Yes". Hopefully, we won't get to that stage, common sense will kick in, and all will once again be well in your little corner of the great Wiki. Best Wishes. Nick (talk) 16:11, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Be civil

Please be civil in your dealings with other editors, I don't think any of the following are really acceptable:

  • "becuase you're all *** *******"
  • "AS IT'S NOT A ******* LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  • "It's not a bleeding list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  • "if ANYONE commits it they WILL BE REVERTED"

I'd suggest that you must understand that whatever point it is you are trying to get across, no one will take any notice if you speak like above. Adambro (talk) 17:22, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] dyk

hi bg, shall I nominate you? You can't get a dyk twice on the same article I think Victuallers (talk) 15:22, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

I have decided to let you handel the newsletter. Congratulations! I no longer have time to continually update and I think you can do a better job anyway. Unisouth (talk) 15:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] tramway list for dyk

Hi BG ... I think its ready? Are you ? Victuallers (talk) 20:56, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Vic,
I'll just work the bullets out (probably hide them, as i don't have enough info on the relevant trams yet!), but i'll probably lose some characters, so will add another couple of trams first. Then yes, it's ready!
Thanks,
BG7 15:15, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
P.S. Sorry for the delayed response, I was away skiing in the alps!

[edit] All set

put this in your list of places to look every few hours. Over the next few days there will/may be comments which we will need to field. Good luck Victuallers (talk) 17:40, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] picture

I went to find a picture, chose one and found it was also at the Tramway museum.... together with

   * The steam tram engine John Bull has an intriguing past - it is rumoured to have fallen into the sea on its way from New South Wales to Manchester; it disappeared in Sydney; and re-surfaced in 1980![4]
   * Sheffield Tram No. 510, entered service in 1950 and was withdrawn, still almost brand-new, when the city's tram system closed in 1960! Ironically, this tram has in fact now done more years at the museum than it did in Sheffield.[4]
   * When made redundant, Blackpool Tram No. 166 was commandeered by the BBC, along with its sister No. 165, as an outside broadcast unit. Many seats were removed, and cameras and recording gear were mounted, to allow the illuminations to be filmed - the already congested promenade could not take any more traffic, ruling out conventional outside broadcast units.[4]
   * Not many of the museum's trams can claim to have been on TV or have front page news, but one can! Prague No. 180 had more press coverage than the rest of the fleet put together.[4] This is because when it was transported to Crich, it was running just ahead of the "Iron curtain" of communist occupation. It became a symbol of the plight of the country. It was restored by its original manufacturers, Tatra, who later made 902.
   * The 1904 Chesterfield tramcar No.7 has had many adventures, and some great escapes! First, it survived a depot fire which destroyed many other trams. Then, it was used as a house by Mr. Eric Cocking - who had actually travelled to school in it. Finally, the museum found the tram, and now, after restoration, it lives happily amongst the operating fleet.[4]
   * Similarly, recently restored Leeds 345 is a very lucky tram. Withdrawn early due to rotten bodywork, it was used as a carpenters' tea shed at a Leeds depot. It was rescued by K. Terry, and for years sat at Crich. It was moved to an outside store, where later on a fire was started. When restored, parts of the lower deck ceiling were found to be singed.
   * Sheffield 74 is in fact made of 3 trams. The top and bottom decks are from different Sheffield trams, and the truck from Leeds.
   * London County Council 1622 was originally an open ended unrefurbished car, but was restored as an enclosed "rehab" car. Its bogies are ex Feltham.

You realise that the new article has to be new. You cannot cut and paste... it has to be original information. Can you explain/resolve? we have a few days Victuallers (talk) 11:24, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, that was C+P out of the orig article - i meant to delete it! As it is a trivia section you see. Gone... BG7 11:27, 18 February 2008 (UTC) (Pictures are also on the Tramcar page - if you want an orig pic, let me know and i'll upload it. BG7 11:27, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks you seem to have the two articles sorted out now. Creating a different hook is always possible. The problem is to make sure that it is backed up by an online hook. I'm not sure that the current hook is ideal as you need to count "the 14" and I assume you have. As for pics, Sunday will be too late for the dyk, but I think you could aim to get a good library of pics stored on wikimedia commons... I see that currently they are on wikipedia which is not so good. If you want to add another hook then please do ... I won't be offended. 21:27, 19 February 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Victuallers (talkcontribs)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On February 22, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tramcars of the National Tramway Museum, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Well done Blue Goblin. The article was kindly nominated by Victuallers. Do feel free to self nom in future. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:57, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, no worries, I will! It was my first one, and vic offered to help me out! BG7 11:26, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] thx4thx

I found an interesting link with dozens of pictures of trolleybusses (two in derby in the 60s). Any interest? Victuallers (talk) 11:38, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Vic,
Yes please!
Mind sending me the link? (I'm going to work up some more tram articles for future DYKs!)
Thanks,

[edit] Tramcars of the National Tramway Museum

Hello Bluegoblin, I've noticed the large contribution you've made recently to the Tramcars of the National Tramway Museum listing. I've put a couple of comments up on the Talk:Tramcars of the National Tramway Museum page and wanted to point you to them. Once again, thanks for your edits! —Sladen (talk) 16:58, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Help...

Hi BG. Ive had a look at the AfD discussion and have warned User:Halfmast. Unfortunately theres not much I can do about the ip as it seems to be a shared ip. You may also want to remember that AFDs are discussions with an aim to achieve consensus and not a vote. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) 19:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tbo,
Thanks for that. I think i'm going to withdraw it and merge the articles. (And I do that how?...)
I'll be more active again in a few days - i've got loads on!
Thanks,
BG7 19:43, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Firstly you should ensure there is a consensus to merge the 2 articles. The AfD will probably be fine for this. IT should be kept open for the full 5 days so a proper discussion can take place. I'll help you with the merging if there is a consensus as the edit histories also need to be merged to comply with GFDL. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) 21:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] afd

I don't feel confident enoughto make this my first close afd. However 1. Why are you propoosing it is merged ... it is your AFD. Withdraw the AFD if you want to merge it.... you don't need an afd to merge 2. Walk away from name-calling. Also see my comments which are meant to be helpful. Victuallers (talk) 19:22, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Victuallers,
Thanks for your input!
  1. I will be withdrawing the AfD now!
  2. Yeh I will do. Thanks for the comments and input!

[edit] Wyvern Rail Deletions etc...

Hi BG7,

Just to let you know I appear to share email address at username at several sites! Spooky!

On a note about the above, I am being blamed for it, and am being threatened to be banned from the railway. Please could you explain to Neil Ferguson-Lee that I have not done this and that we are seperate people.

Thanks,

Shanner191 (Jack Gordon) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shanner191 (talkcontribs) 16:41, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Sure, will do!
Sorry for the confusion - I just want to make WP a better place!
Oh and in future, please sign with for tildes (~~~~).
Thanks,

Please try to focus on the issues while dealing with other editors. This edit [1] is definitely not civil and borders on personal attack. This is true anywhere, but especially on Editor Assistance where you are supposed to be helping other editors, not attacking them. SpinningSpark 22:49, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Comment

Hi BG7 -

As the administrator closing WyvernRail plc, I wanted to let you know that I've closed it as keep. In addition, I wanted to tell you that I found your attitude around that AFD to be particularly aggressive and that it might have actually hurt your cause. Please remain civil and polite at all times - besides being one of our rules, I think you'll find that it advances your cause. - Philippe | Talk 06:11, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
