BladeLogic, Inc. NASDAQ: BLOG is a public software company based in Lexington, MA that offers data center automation solutions designed for enterprises, service providers and government organizations. BladeLogic was founded to address the escalating cost, complexity, and risk of managing the data center. The company’s software products are designed to enable IT organizations to provision, configure, patch, audit, and remediate physical and virtual servers and applications. The goal is to allow customers to achieve improved application uptime, reduced data center operating costs, and enhanced security and compliance.

BladeLogic was started by a group of entrepreneurs who recognized that IT organizations required next-generation solutions to solve the growing management challenges of the data center. Remarkably, the company closed its first round of venture financing five days before September 11, 2001, and then raised three other rounds of venture financing over the next four years for a total of $29M. Over this time the company recruited senior technology executives who brought significant operational expertise to the management team and the board.

The name "BladeLogic" refers to the management of blade servers. When BladeLogic was founded, it seemed that data centers were moving toward blade servers,[1] whereas today the trend seems to be more toward virtualization.[2]

Since its inception, BladeLogic has acquired more customers, delivered better operating results in terms of revenue growth and profitability and grown faster than any of its competitors. On July 25, 2007 BladeLogic began trading on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol NASDAQ: BLOG.
