[edit] proposal

Bas van der Voort (Sebastiaan Nicolaas Wilhelmus van der Voort) (*23 November 1991 in Den Bosch) is young dutch cancer surviror, who lost his right leg to an osteosarcoma. He tells his story to news papers[1], at radio stations and in television shows like Je zal het maar hebben from the TV station BNN <wikify correct> . The Dutch TV station AVRO <wikify correct> featured another programme: Vinger aan de pols. With his public actions he tries to give hope to people with cancer.

[edit] Life

Bas was born in Den Bosch on 23 November 1991 and lives in Maren-Kessel in the town Lith. He is a gymnasium student at the Maasland college in Oss.

[edit] The cancer

On October 24, 2003 Bas broke his right leg. He recovered, but still hold a lot of pain in his right leg. So there came a time of a lot of different hospital visits. The diagnosis: Osteosarcoma on the right femur. Bas was treated with 18 chemo's and a lot of operations, but he could hold his leg. He had every 4 weeks a x-ray of his lungs and every 3 months a bone and lung scan.

Then the next developement came. The physicians saw a new tumor in his right leg. This time the only way to survive was the amputation of the whole right leg and after the amputation again 9 chemo's. He learned live with one leg and he tried to do everything what a person with 2 legs can do. <running bicycle>

But in 2007 cancer came back in Bas' left lung. The chances to full recovery were very bad. They operated a little part of the left lung and he still has every week a x-ray of his lung and every 3 month a lung and bone scan.

<hm, I don't know about this part> In spite of everything is bas still positve, and he helps people now with similar problems. He want to be a children doctor when he's grow up,he really wants to help people. He does everything with one leg, but he wants a proteseleg. So he goes every week to a rehabilitation centre, for walking with his protese. And he found a new passion: weelchair basketbal, he plays now in the Dutch youth weelchair basketbal selection.<hm>

[edit] problems

hi ricardo, I see some problems: a) why is bas important b) what are your sources (a private homepage is no source) look at the conflict in the dutch wiki. So I think you should start again: where you heard or read about Bas? Translate this and make it your source (see above => no private homepage, myspace acc, etc) Improving your style should the last task ;-) Sebastian scha. (talk) 04:40, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE

Hi Sebastian, the articel that you wrote is very good, and better as mine! i'm not so good in writing things,i'm sorry for that. I didn't saw the discussion on the Dutch wikipedia, because i can't read Dutch. I read about Bas in a lot of papers, he chicled 600 km for the dutch cancer society,he had severall gifts (81.000 euro's). So i know him from his actions for the dutch cancer society, but the most people in the netherlands now him.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ricardosoprano21 (talkcontribs) 18:38, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

okay, there are some issues, you can't use any unsourced informations. E.g. his birthday I found only on his private homepage and this would not work. a blog is no source for wikipedia, but the newspaper articles are very good. And each pic I've found are in copyright and so not to be uploaded to wp or wpcommons, sorry Sebastian scha. (talk) 19:15, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
