Coordinates: 29°23′N 79°26′E / 29.38, 79.44 Barechhina (Hindi: बाड़ेछीना), is a village in Almora district, Uttarakhand, 8 km from the district headquarter, the city of Almora. [1]. It lies on highway from Almora-Barechhina-Dhaulchina-Sheraghat-RaiAgar-Berinag-Chaukori-Thai-Tejam to Munsiyari.

Barechhina has recently been public notice due to finding of two pre-historic painted rock shelters, 'Lakhuudiyar', on the banks of Suyal river, with paintings of animals, humans and also tectiforms done with fingers in black, red and white colours [2] [3], which have now become a tourist attraction as well [4] It is also the site for archaeological rock engravings being studied by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi [5].

It is also known as the birth place of acclaimed Hindi short story writer, Shailesh Matiyani (1931-2001). It also home to the ‘Ekta Sanskritik Samiti’, a local cultural organization. [6], and a Govt. Inter College (G.I.C.) [7].
