[edit] The name

Can someone explain the etymology of the name? IIRC, it comes from the chicken breed called Bantam, small chickens that were (formerly?) used often in cockfights. The chicken themselves are named after the city of Bantam on Java. See also the Online Etymology Dictionary. Lupo 28 June 2005 09:41 (UTC)
