Thanks. I'm aware of that site, though grudgingly it only works for me using Internet Explorer (not Firefox). More of a challenge is getting data for the surrounding jurisdictions to match up with DC's data. Montgomery County and others often charge fees. Census Tiger data will probably have to do, for roads and other features. Though, for large-scale maps of neighborhoods, the DC data would be useful. ---Aude 21:03, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

True, the Firefox thing is annoying. If you have Arcview, the ESRI Data CDs are pretty good. Though DC doesn't really have neighborhood boundaries for DC, just general areas - the city doesn't like to publish their neighborhood boundaries, since people might see it and say "Hey! Why did you remove my edit to the Knoxville, TN website? I linked an Improv Show to their local events section only. That group has been a staple of the city for 12 years now.

Anonymous- because the other events are all once a year festivals, and that's a reoccuring thing. And now you have it in "Sites of Interest", which includes stuff like James White's Fort and Volunteer Landing. Improv comedy is not a site of interest. My family is from Knoxville and I lived there for many years. The whole purpose of Wikipedia is for people to edit it following the rules of the site, which is what I'm doing. You are new to the site, and I appreciate your enthusiasm, but your link doesn't fit either section. If there were something like "Cultural groups" or "entertainment" then fine, but recurring improv shows are not a Site of Interest (which are places, like James White's Fort) or an Event like the others - Boomsday, Dogwoood Festival, those are all once-a-year special events. Otherwise, why not add UT football as an event, or a band that plays a bar regularly? I have nothing against the group or improv, it just doesn't fit. I've even taken improv classes before. Hi, I migrated the page from Mike Chapman's Victoria Cross Reference page. What was happeneing was that all the pages were converted to wiki-format, so all that needed doing was a cut and paste over to Wikipedia. Unfortunately the site no longer exists, so I'm not sure what the current stus of the newspaper articles is, or where they're from. I don't know what other copyright info they require. The base map is a public domain document (a government document) whose copyright info is already listed here. But I've made changes to them myself and have thereby placed the new image in the public domain. What else does it need? --Msclguru 15:09, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

No, I did not mean to bold my comment. Please note that WP:RFD, along with all pages that discuss the deletion or lack thereof of articles, are not votes, but discussions. Therefore, there is no need to add bolding to the word that represents one's primary opinion; indeed, I specifically do not bold them, and recommend against others doing so, because it encourages the "vote" mentality, and makes people lose sight of discussion. No problem, I was trying to undo the edits by this anon who changed "Armenian" to "Assyrian". Feel free to double-check if some of his edits still remain. As for the fact that Kurds make up the majority, the source is very poor. It doesn't even show Elazığ on the map, it's obvious that Kurds are the majority in most of the rural areas, but I'd prefer that we have some text that states "Kurds are the predominate ethnic group in Elazığ". You deleted a link to celebrityprepschools.com in the article for Chatham Hall. It was added because it discusses attendance at the school of some of the 'notable alumnae' listed in the article. Perhaps that was not the appropriate section for it, but it wasn't linkspam.

If it's really for the school, put the exact page for the stuff about Chatham Hall, anonymous. Otherwise it's spam or link farming. --Awiseman 07:03, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Even if that means breaking it into three separate links? The site is organized alphabetically by alum entry rather than by school.

Why not just put each link next to the person's name in the article, rather than the external links section? They seem too specific to be in the external links section, but would be fine in the article, I think. Also, you should get a user name, it makes things easier and people are less likely to disagree with your edits if you have a user name. They're not really the same. True, Columbia has its origin in Christopher Columbus but the meaning is very different. Just as you wouldn't say Indiana is named after India because there is a step in between the two. D.C. was given that name because at the time Columbia was a formal, poetic name for the United States. There was no attempt to honor Christopher Columbus who never set foot in the land that would become the U.S.A. Columbus only really became a national hero in the 20th century after some lobbying by Italian immigrants. --dm ^(talk) 21:20, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey Awiseman! I have a feeling that the banned user TuzsuzDeliBekir may be the anons, I'm not sure about the sockpuppets however. They seem to all be connected, but not to TDB. Please read my explanations before reverthing articles. If the city's greek name is written and mentioned in detail further in the article there is no need to rewrite it, this is the Wiki policy I witnessed so far in the articles.

Hello Awiseman, The term "French and Indian War" refers to the Conflict in North America between 1754 and 1763 that preceeded the Seven Years' War in Europe. What's the signature on behalf of the State of Florida for the recognition of Pontian Greek Genocide? The Governor Jeb Bush? The President of the State Senate? Who signed the recognition? Hmm, maybe I was being a too "clever" myself. The article used to say that Colson "argue[s] that Darwinism is an attack on Christianity". I'm not aware of him arguing that Darwinism, however defined, is in essence an attack on Christianity, but I'm sure he has written that it is used to attack Christianity. So I called the old phrasing a misstatement, and I called it "clever" because I fear it was worded that way to convey the idea Colson is one of those ultra-conservative anti-science nuts.

I have exported two of five paragraphs and with them both dispute tags to the Talk. What remains is a somewhat repetitive stub. Tentatively, I judge that editorial interest in early baseball is to weak to support major improvement of coverage. Or does Wikipedia activity slumps in the northern summer and pick up now (academic year in the U.S.).

On 1868 in particular, a couple of good secondary sources show that the Mutuals were on the frontier in consorting with gamblers, suspected of throwing games and lesser cooperation. Three Mutuals players were the principals in the biggest (only full-blown?) game-fixing scandal, but the event was 1865. Ryczek (1992: 65) says the following where "[4]" marks the location of his specific reference. "The Brooklyn Eagle confided that by 1868 a number of leading clubs were controlled by gamblers.[4] By that time it was said that the Mutuals had become expert at playing either side of a fix, a useful and rewarding talent." The citation is another secondary source and the Clipper of 1874-08-15. The second sentence seems to be unsourced, probably from the author's voluminous reading of newspapers and scrapbooks. (With the two paragraphs now in Talk rather than in the article, I will say something shorter but to this effect in the Talk.) --P64 20:50, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

For one matter covered in the two paragraphs --the "Green Stockings" usage, sometimes as a nickname-- I have provided a full report on two hours research using the ProQuest online database. I hope you will take a look and tell me a little more about the issue as you understand it.

You may be interested in reading Athletic of Philadelphia or Eckford of Brooklyn, whose article titles follow a different convention, or articles on other NABBP member clubs, or even Boston Red Sox#Nickname on one modern club.
