The pronunciation now given is "AH-w'-bah", which seems correct to my ears, but if a local could offer any guidance that would be great. Orderinchaos 12:46, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Using the IPA key, the closest I can come up with for local pronounciation is /əwɒbə/. Kinda like Elmer Fudd saying "a robber". awobba. :) --Athol Mullen 14:32, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

No problem. I'm not confident about where the IPA accents go, but I do know how some local pronounciations. There are bound to be quite a few others that are similarly way out. :) --Athol Mullen 23:48, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Comes down to, what might be pronounced one way in one part of the country is different in a different part - mainly because I think the Aboriginal dialects they originate from are different. For example "Karrinyup" in Perth which some might think to be kuh-RIN-yup is actually CARR-uh-nup (like the word "carry"), noting the silent "y". That's why the local knowledge is so important on Wiki :) I put the IPA accent on the middle syllable btw. Orderinchaos 00:57, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
