[edit] Australian Mitsubishi factory set to close
Last ditch efforts by the South Australian and federal Australian goverments have failed, and Mitsubishi Motors are set to close their Clovelly Park, South Australia manufacturing plant on March 31, 2008, following poor sales of the Mitsubishi 380 (pictured). The close of the factory was announced at a board meeting in Tokyo. Sales and model production have slumped, from 59,000 to 11,000 over the last 10 years and has made the operation unsustainable. The close of the plant will cause the loss of approximately 1,000 workers, all of which will be given full compensation. The shutdown will mean that only Ford, Holden and Toyota will produce cars in Australia.
