  • Comment I'll throw a few references out quickly from the computer game. Putting in talk as I don't think it's too relevant.

[edit] Valid keep arguments

  • a valid third-party source has been provided
  • Wikipedia:Five pillars: notability to a real-world audience, plenty of refereces, consistent with a "specialized encyclopedia" concerning fictional topics with importance in the real world.

[edit] Discounted keep arguments

  • history behind the character
  • character appears in some game
  • keep, out of spite
  • appeared in more than just one fictional medium and was voiced by a notable actor
  • around for a long time and developed by a notable author
    • notability is not inherited

[edit] Valid Delete Arguments

  • Fails to meet WP:NOTABILITY
  • No valid third-party sources
  • orginal research
  • No assertion of real-world notability per WP:FICT
  • in-universe perspective absent information on development and critical response

[edit] Discounted Delete Arguments

  • just describing another game character, just a character
    • demonstrates bias against this type of subject
  • stock character
    • A stock character is one which relies heavily on cultural types or stereotypes for their personality, manner of speech, and other characteristics.
  • WP:NOT#PLOT
    • article is not essentially a plot summary
  • WP:WEASEL
    • maintenance issue, not deletion criteria
  • WP:WAF
    • this is a writing-style guide, no deletion criteria here
  • possibly dubious claims
  • copyright violation (some of the language sounds like it's straight from a scholarly source)
    • If it sounds good it must be a copyvio? What about try to find the scholarly source and cite it?
  • to be a valid third party source, it must discuss real-world history or impact
    • no such requirement exists

[edit] Summary

The Merge !votes outnumbered the keep and delete !votes combined. Merge outcome seems likely to address all valid concerns. Ergo: Merge JERRY talk contribs 08:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Merge and Redirect

Jerry, thank you for your rational and well thought out comments. I have completed the merge and redirect to Slaad. That article is also up for AfD but I feel it fails to meet the criteria for many of the same reasons you have listed here. Web Warlock (talk) 21:34, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
