Leon Springs is on Interstate 10, approximately 19 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio in northwestern Bexar County. In 1846, Leon Springs was the site of a stagecoach stop operated by George von Pleve, a German nobleman and immigrant. A post office was established in 1857, and by 1885 the town had a steam cotton gin, a general store, two hotels, and a population of 50. During World War I, Leon Springs was the site of an officers' training camp. The post office was closed in 1918, and by the mid-1930s the population had fallen to 25. The town began to grow again during World War II due to activity at Camp Stanley and Camp Bullis, in the nearby Leon Springs Reservation. In 1946, the community had a population of 100. Subsequently, the number of residents remained steady, and in 1990 the reported population was 137.

The Eighth Regiment was organized at Camp Buckingham, Hartford, in September, 1861, It was first commanded by Col . Edward Harland of Norwich. The regiment left Hartford Oct. 17, 1861. It held a camp of instruction at Jamaica, Long Island, and there received its colors. It proceeded to Annapolis, where it spent the fall. Early in January, 1862, the Eighth sailed with the Burnside Expedition to North Carolina as part of the Ninth Corps. It was held in reserve during the battle of Roanoke Island.

It was engaged in the battle of Newberne, N.C. March 14, 1862. The Eighth then participated in the successful siege of Fort Macon, N.C., April 1862. From there the Eighth proceeded to Fredricksburg in July, 1862. On September 1st, the Eighth accompanied the Union Army to Washington, and on September 8th, joined the Maryland Campaign, including action at South Mountain.

The Battle of Antietam on September 17th, 1862, resulted in a greater number of casualties for the regiment than any other engagement of the war. Along with other regiments of Harland's Brigade, the Eighth marched downstream from Burnside's Bridge, and crossed the Antietam at Snaveley's Ford. They proceeded up the slopes towards Sharpsburg to attack the Confederates, finally being repulsed by reenforcements under Gen. A.P. Hill at the close of the day's fighting.

After Antietam, the Eighth stayed in Pleasant Valley til marching back to Fredricksburg, with the Army of the Potomac, assuming their old camps at the Lacey House. Soon it was involved in the contested crossing of the Rappahannock, the Battle of Fredericksburg on December 13th, 1862, and was held in reserve during the bloody repulses that followed.

Following their participation in Burnside's Mud March, the Eighth took leave of the Ninth Corps early in 1863, and went to Newport News, then to Suffolk, Virginia. They participated in the siege there for several months. It was there that the Eighth, now under Col. John Ward, attacked Fort Huger and took it by surprise in a daring raid. The regiment remained in the Portsmouth area during the summer, and participated in the "Blackberry Raid" demonstration in force.

In December 1863, the Eighth re-enlisted 310 original members, and in January were home on veteran furloughs.

The year of 1864 found the Eighth returned to southeastern Virginia and had now been transferred to the Eighteenth Corps. There they participated in the battles of Walthall Junction, Fort Darling, Drewry's Bluff, Cold Harbor, and the siege of Petersburg. In September, they served on Bermuda Hundred, and across the James River. September 29th, they fought at Fort Harrison and Chaffins' Farm, which was their last engagement of the war.

The Eighth was with the Army of the Potomac in its final advance on Richmond in the spring of 1865. After Gen. Lee's surrender at Appomattox, the Eighth moved to Lynchburg, Virginia where it performed police and provost duties until it was mustered out of service December 12th, 1865, serving a longer term than all but two other Connecticut regiments.

The Honda Pilot was an all-terrain vehicle produced by the Honda Corporation in 1989 and 1990. This vehicle is also known as the FL400R, the model number assigned to this vehicle by Honda. Despite the fact that this model has not been manufactured for nearly 20 years, it remains an extremely popular vehicle.

It's body style was based on the earlier Honda Odyssey model and was the last ATV manufatured in this style. The Honda Pilot is powered by a 397cc two-stroke, single cylinder engine and features a full roll cage and four-point safety harness.

Honda Odyssey was a line of all-terrain vehicles produced by the Honda Corporation between 1976 and 1985. These vehicles carried a single rider surrounded by a roll cage and were similar to a dune buggy or sandrail. Despite the fact that these vehicles have not been manufactured for over 20 years, they remain extremely popular vehicles.

Between 1976 and 1984, Honda manufatured the FL250 Odyssey, with a 248cc air-cooled engine. In 1985, Honda released the FL350R Odyssey with a larger 329cc engine. Both featured a roll cage and four-point safety harnesses. Honda stopped producing the Honda Odyssey in 1985, but replaced the model line in 1989 with the Honda Pilot, a similar ATV built on the same style frame.

Dimaras has frequently performed as soloist with orchestras as well as in solo and chamber music concerts throughout Europe and the United States. He has appeared with the Greek National Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, and the MAV Hungarian Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has performed at the Salzburg Mozarteum International summer concerts, the Brighton and Newcastle International Chamber music festivals, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard Theater, and Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Dimaras holds a doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music, a master's degree from Juilliard, and a diploma from the Royal College of Music in London. He also holds a soloist's diploma from the Contemporary School of Music in Athens.

Formerly on the faculty of the University of Miami summer program in Salzburg, Dimaras was also a teaching fellow at the Royal College of Music and Ethnikon National Conservatory in Athens. He has won first prize in the Conferenza Musicale Mediterranea and top prize at the Palmo d'Oro International Chamber Music.

In 2006, Joe had an interesting problem facing him and his brother on the football. Team, Joe and his brother Mike were both vying for the title of the starting quarterback position. The Keno Drive in Theater is one of the few in a dwindling number of old-style drive in movie venues. It is the remaining one of two drive in theaters that existed in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the other being the MidCity Drive In which existed at the other extreme border of Kenosha County. The Mid City was located on North Sheridan Road, just before the border with Racine County. That site is now a housing development.

The Keno Drive In features current first-run double features, starting in spring through fall each year. It now uses a sound system by which the sound tracks of the movie are received via a vehicle's on board radio. Remnants of the past are seen in the poles which still exist which formerly serviced the old-fashioned heavy metal speakers which hooked onto the window of the vehicles.

Although the "playground equipment" that formerly existed in this and other drive in venues is no longer there, a lawn area in front of the large screen remains and is used by children for play during breaks in the shows.

Thomas was stationed in Iraq for almost six months this past year while serving in the United States Air Force. During his tour of duty he had the joy of encountering many native animals over there!

Thomas lived in Baghdad during his stay in Iraq. He says that most of these animals lived in the vicinity of his actually living quarters and were often seen lounging around.

Thomas states that, ""Dog" just hung out with the gate guards most of the time and pretty much adopted them. He helped them out by growling or wagging his tail to approve or disapprove incoming vehicles.

"Dog" also liked to play catch with rocks, and since the whole area was gravel, he would run to about where the rock landed, grab a random rock and bring it back. He was a great dog and a great morale boost for those who were standing at the gate for 12-14 hours a day."

Colonel Bob Stephan was appointed to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Infrastructure Protection in April 2005. In this capacity, he is responsible for the Department’s efforts to catalog our critical infrastructures and key resources and coordinate risk-based strategies and protective measures to secure them from terrorist attack.

His prior experience as Senior Director for Critical Infrastructure Protection in the Executive Office of the President (EOP), makes him a well qualified choice for the Assistant Secretary position. During his tenure with EOP, his duties included developing and coordinating interagency policy and strategic initiatives to protect the United States against terrorist attack across 13 critical infrastructure sectors.

Previous to his new position within IAIP, Colonel Stephan served as Special Assistant to the Secretary and Director of the Secretary’s Headquarters Operational Integration Staff. In this capacity, he was responsible for wide range of activities that included headquarters-level planning in the areas of strategic and operational planning, core mission integration, domestic incident management, training and exercises. He also directed the Interagency Incident Management Group, integrating Department and interagency capabilities in response to domestic threats and incidents.

Colonel Stephan held a variety of key operational and command positions in the joint special operations community during a 24-year Air Force career. During Operation Desert Storm, he deployed to Saudi Arabia as a joint battlestaff planner and mission commander supporting Joint Special Operations Task Force strategic interdiction operations in Iraq. As a commander of two Air Force Special Tactics Squadrons, Colonel Stephan organized, trained, and equipped forces for contingency operations in Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Croatia, Liberia, Colombia, and Kosovo.

Colonel Stephan is a distinguished graduate of the USAF Academy, and holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. He is an Olmsted Scholar, and has earned Masters Degrees in International Relations from the University of Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and The Johns Hopkins University.

Fricot is a stew traditionally and commonly prepared in Acadia, the francophone parts of Atlantic Canada, New England and Louisiana. The original potato fricot was prepared by early Acadians when neither meat or fish was available and was given the tongue-in-cheek name 'fricot à la belette' (weasel fricot). It is famous for its trademark flour-and-milk dumplings and now includes chicken -Fricot au poulet- and can also be made with fish, rabbit, beef, pork, game or the traditional Poutine râpée.
