Area code 440

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Area code 440 is a North American telephone area code serving part of Northeast Ohio, United States, including the Greater Cleveland area. 440 covers all of Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties. It serves almost all of Lorain County, part of Erie County, and the northeast corner of Huron County as well as the northwest part of Trumbull County. Finally, 440 shares Cuyahoga County with Area code 216.

Area code 440 was originally part of area code 216, one of the original North American Numbering Plan codes. Along with 330, 440 was added in the late 1990's to keep up with the increasing number of cellular phones, as well as population factors.
