Angren is a city in eastern Uzbekistan 70 miles (115 km) east of Tashkent. It was founded in 1946 as a center for the Uzbekistan coal industry.[1]
Angren a notable industrial town has a large construction-materials industry, a rubber processing plant and power station. It also has a teacher-training institute and a museum.
Population in the city has declined since the early 1990s. In 1992 it had a population of 133,000 but as of 2005 it is 126,962.
