NYC public schools
Hello, Andrew. Thanks for your message about List of public elementary schools in New York City, and for adding the links. Are you the same person who connected through the NYC school system server and added the links for Mary Lindley Murray? And somewhat aside, is Murray Hill, Manhattan named after Mary Murray?
A couple of comments about adding the eponyms of the schools:
- PS 87 William Sherman: You added the eponym of William Sherman, which redirects to William Tecumseh Sherman, the Civil War Army general. Are you sure that he is the eponym of the school? Looking at the list of schools, I have noticed that NYC schools are not often named after military heroes. With a relatively common name like William Sherman, I think it likely that there is some other William Sherman who is the eponym for that school.
- PS 200 James M. Smith: The link you added goes to James Milton Smith, about which I am highly skeptical, as he was a Confederate infantry colonel in the Civil War and later a member of the Georgia legislature after the war. I think it much more likely—although I have no proof—that the eponym for PS 200 is James McCune Smith, a pre-Civil War black pharmacist and abolitionist born in NYC. I am going to temporarily remove James Milton Smith as the eponym of PS 200 pending confirmation.
Let’s be very careful about adding eponyms until we are sure or the names can be verified. Some names are obvious, such Pura Belpré. How many people named Pura Belpré could there be? Names such as Benjamin Franklin and Langston Hughes are pretty obvious too. I added some of the very obvious eponyms for people who are famous in American mistory, although I could still be wrong.
Do you have any way of confirming the eponyms of the NYC schools?

- Hey Dan, I live on the Upper West Side, and I've walked past William Sherman many times. I seem to recall that the building has "General" or similar on the outside; I'll check it next time I'm there. As for James Smith - you're quite right. McCune is spelt out by the Dept of Ed in one of their entries. In any event, there doesn't seem to be a standard reference for all of these.
- I didn't make the changes from the NYC school IP; I don't have any insight into who that was. As for the naming of Murray Hill, I think it was named for the family rather than any individual but Mary Lindlay M. seems to be a member of the family in question. Eighth Avenue Stations
I reverted his changes because he replaced [http://nycsubway.org/ind/8thave/ind-8th-81.html nycsubway.org - IND 8th Avenue: 81st Street-Museum of Natural History] with [http://nycsubway.org/ind/8thave/ind-8th-81.html]. He removed the link title, which makes the link more specific. I reverted them to put back the link title. Hope this helps. --Imdanumber1 (talk • contribs) 21:47, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Great. The best thing is to always direct a person to the web site containing the external info (so they won't bother clicking through another link for the info they're looking for). Thanks for fixing that; I never noticed it. --Imdanumber1 (talk • contribs) 22:10, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Glaessner
Hi, thanks for letting me know about your article on Glaessner. I made a redirect to your article from his full name, its always useful to do that so that people get the article if they search for either (or one of many in some cases) of the names. There is also a category for members of the Academy, which you might want to add if you write any more articles on members, see Category:Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science. --Peta 03:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Phoenix
I totally spaced and disambiguated Phoenix. I even knew you were getting ready to do it. Sorry about that. I really need to stop disambiguating late at night. --Bobblehead (rants) 06:36, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Disambiguating Panther
I noticed on two articles that I watch, Mainland High School and Pine Ridge High School, you disambiguated the link to Panther. While I appreciate your effort, I must ask by what basis you chose their species. For instance, Pine Ridge High School was disambiguated as Cougar, and Mainland High School is disambiguated as Black Panther. --Vox Rationis (Talk | contribs) 23:50, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- I started off saying that most of the school mascots should be Black panther, judging by the illustrations, but then I started thinking Florida schools might be better as Cougar, cf Florida panther. On reflection, just de-linking might have been better, given the intangible nature of a mascot. Apologies for the confusion. Do those schools have a particular species in mind, do you know? --AndrewHowse 04:40, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Wiki help
Thank you Andrew for your help in plain English, I think I can actually get this going without further issues. Much appreciated. I'll let you know if I need any further help —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xjennersonx (talk • contribs) 20:53, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Editing using name
Thanks for all the tips, Andrew... I think I'm finally getting the hang of it now. TheFatJamoc 17:56, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Dear Andrew, I don't understand why you have tagged this article for wikification. Considering the length of the article (i.e. short) - and it was merely intended as a stopgap for this singer - it seems to me to be full of internal links already, and the fact that some are red is only a sign that lots of other related subjects also need starting. I do realise it has only one source at present but at least it has one, which more than one could say for many much longer articles. The trouble with these tags is that, once applied, they become difficult to remove unless one knows more precisely how the person who applied it would like to see the article developed. Can you advise please? Thanks, Eebahgum 04:02, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Andrew,
Thanks for message. I have in fact wikilinked everything in sight and already last night de-tagged it, but at your request I will now add some formatting. I think the article was just on the borderline of what I would 'bother' to format with headings or not, as it can look a bit silly to have lots of headings with not much text. I'll attend to it. At least I know someone is reading my articles! Thanks, Eebahgum 08:15, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation; I removed the prod and put my suggestions at Talk:Undefined. Cheers --Pak21 (talk) 19:07, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Esterel Studio
np. It was beyond me also, but I checked out VHDL, which the article referred to, and from there I could see which RTL it was talking about. MrKIA11 16:08, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Michael Willis speedy deletion declined.
Hello, Andrew. I declined the speedy on this. Although far from neutral and not always well written, it does not appear to meet WP:CSD criteria. It also asserts notability, but I'm not sure how strong a case for keeping could be made. You might want to take it to WP:AFD. Cheers, and happy editing. Dlohcierekim 16:19, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I know what you mean. But taken as a whole, the article is not gibberish. There may even be a less mangled version. I added a neutrality tag. I'll add a cleanup tag too. Maybe the creator can fix it up better. I don't like the lack of sources. I tagged for that. If no one can come up for sources, then that would make it deletable at AfD. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 16:39, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Yech. Removed per WP:BLP. Feel free to nom this at WP:AFD it you think it needs deleting. I'm going to take a nap. run some errands, and take a look at past versions. It may be that a subtle vandal has been at it. My inability to locate verifiable sources may say more about the subject than my abilities as a researcher. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 16:50, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thought you might want to partake here-- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Willis. I did my best, but 'twas not to be. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 00:06, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Blocked
Thanks. Blocked already by Satori Sam. For quicker results, you might try WP:AIV. Be sure there is a full set of current warnings on the vandals talk page first. Cheers.18:27, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Halfback
I saw your edit here; I thought I'd let you know that Halfback (American football) exists, although it doesn't appear to be listed on the disambiguation page. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 19:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up. I looked at running back and Halfback (American football) and linked the latter to the former as a hatnote in the halfback section. One could make the case for a merge too, I guess. --AndrewHowse (talk) 19:17, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
