Andrew Benson is a scientist who, along with Melvin Calvin and James Bassham, elucidated the path of carbon assimilation (the photosynthetic carbon reduction cycle) in plants. The carbon reduction cycle is known as the Calvin cycle, which inappropriately ignores the contribution of Bassham and Benson. Many scientists refer to the cycle as the Calvin-Benson Cycle, Benson-Calvin, and some even call it the Calvin-Benson-Bassham (or CBB) Cycle.
This was done from 1946 through 1953.[1]
He was a chemistry instructor at the University of California at Berkley in 1942 and 1943.[2]
Benson received his Ph.D. in about 1945.
Benson was latter a professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. [3] He was also a professor at the University of California at San Diego but had received emeritus status by 2002.[4]
