Perhaps I'm confused, but I thought Allegheny Airlines was the predecessor to USAir/USAirways itself? Can anyone shed light on this?

[edit] Allegheny

Allegheny was on was of the airlines that became US Air, that occurred after the merger between Alleghney and Mohaw Airlines

[edit] US Air

Alleghney purchased Mohawk rather than a merger check out this web site.

[edit] Merge/Split Fest

I'm thinking this article really needs to be partially merged into the US Airways article the Allegheny before 1979 section, and the article refocused on "Allegheny" under USAir and US Airways. I've been on a bit of a rampage organizing the merged and airlines so each airline is its own company, and this would be another part of it. I'll tag with the appropriate tags soon. —Cliffb 05:40, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
