| This is a copyrighted image that has been released by a company or organization to promote their work or product in the media, such as advertising material or a promotional photo in a press kit. The copyright for it is most likely owned by the company who created the promotional item or the artist who produced the item in question; you must provide evidence of such ownership. Lack of such evidence is grounds for deletion. It is believed that the use of some images of promotional material to illustrate:
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other usage of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. Fair use rationale for use in the article All About Eve:
- Image is a promotional photograph, originally intended for wide distribution as publicity for the film, and as such has been published in books and magazines since the film's production. Use on Wikipedia does not make the image significantly more accessible than it already is.
- An image of the principal cast is important for this article, as the acting and characters are often regarded as one of the most significant factors in the films success, and continued appeal. No scenes were filmed with all 6 principal actors on screen at the same time, so this single image allows each person to be equally depicted.
- Image is intended to specifically illustrate only the section discussing the casting and the characters, but as the actors and characters are discussed throughout the entire article, use of this image adds to the overall quality and completeness of the article.
- Image is of considerably lower resolution than the original, and is used for informational purposes only. Its use does not detract from either the original photograph, or from the film itself.
[edit] Fair use rationale for use in American films of 1950
- For an article covering the films released in the USA in 1950, one single screenshot identifying the Academy Award winning film of that year in the absence of any other images significantly contribrutes to the article and illustrates the role and significance of that film in cinemtatic history.
- No free or public domain images have been located for this film or indeed any films of that year.
- The image is of lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
- The image is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original film or affect the copyright holder in any way. The use of the image in that film history article is entirely encyclopedic in nature and is believed to enhance an understanding of film in that year in history.
- The image is used on various websites, and its use on Wikipedia does not make it significantly more accessible than it already is.
