Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of 'Psycho' is the title of a book by Stephen Rebello. First published in 1990 by Dembner Books and distributed by W. W. Norton, the book details every aspect of the creation of director Alfred Hitchcock's famous thriller Psycho released to theaters in 1960. On publication, critic Richard Schickel called the book "one of the best accounts of the making of an individual movie we've ever had." Psycho star Anthony Perkins called the book, "Meticulously researched and irresistible."

A later trade paperback was published in 1998 by St. Martin's Griffin, the book has also been subsequently published in hardcover and paperback in Great Britain and translated for editions published in Japan, France, Germany, and Italy. It is widely used in university and college courses on film and the work of Hitchcock.

In 2005, the newspapers Variety and Hollywood Reporter reported that a television film or miniseries would be made from the book for Arts and Entertainment Television. However, when that option period expired, the motion picture rights were immediately purchased by Focus Features. A motion picture version is planned for production in 2008. Ryan Murphy has been announced as director with Anthony Hopkins to star as Alfred Hitchcock for producers Tom Thayer, Alan Barnette and Executive Producer Stephen Rebello. The screenplay is by Stephen Rebello. The film is funded by MRC.
