Alexa Kenin (February 16, 1962 – September 10, 1985[2]), was an American actress on stage and television and in motion pictures, perhaps most widely known for her roles in several films released during the 1980s, such as Pretty in Pink, Little Darlings and Honkytonk Man.
Kenin, a native New Yorker, decided she was interested in acting at the age of 3, after seeing a production of The Nutcracker.[3] Kenin's first professional role was opposite Jason Robards in the 1972 television movie House Without a Christmas Tree.[2][3] She was also featured in several ABC After School Specials[4] and in the 1982 made-for-TV film A Piano for Mrs. Cimino[2]
On the stage she was in John Guare's Landscape of the Body at The Public Theater in 1977, in an off-Broadway production of Jack Gilhooley's Elusive Angel, and in Life Under Water, by Richard Greenberg, at the Ensemble Studio Theatre's Marathon '85.[2]
Kenin was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her Manhattan apartment soon after making Pretty in Pink.[2] Her last film, Animal Behavior, was released in 1989.
Pretty in Pink is dedicated to her and to Bruce Weintraub, the film's set decorator.
