Banff Springs Hotel in 1929

...that the Banff Springs Hotel was the second Grand railway hotel to be built by the Canadian Pacific Railway? Its opening in June 1, 1888 was preceded by that of Hotel Vancouver by two weeks. The third Grand Hotel was the equally iconic Château Frontenac in Quebec City, which opened five years later, in 1893. The hotels were built to expose Canada's beauties to tourists, and create business for the expanding railway companies.
