This station has a ground-level island platform. Midori no Madoguchi (open between 9:00 and 18:00) and simple Suica ticket gates are installed.

- March 30, 1935: Opened as a terminal station of Itō Line from Atami Station.
- December 15, 1938: Itō Line expanded to Itō Station.
- January 30, 1963: Discontinued fright services.
- April 1, 1987: Along with division and privatization of JNR, East Japan Railway Company started operating this station.
